Have I lost 3 months of work?

I downloaded Easy companion share so that I could make a companion but then decided not to use it. I then built a mod and now I find out that my mod requires the companion share mod. I removed the esp's there were two of them, from my data file but now when I try to open my mod in the CS I get a warning about the companion share master file missing and then the CS closes?

Please tell me that I haven't lost three months of hard work because of one crappy mod.

Yes I can add the mod back to my files but I would never release a mod that would corrupt someones save game. My mod is dependent on this other mod. I didn't want my mod to be dependent on any other mods. I want everyone to be able to download and play it.

I deleted my mod, uninstalled Oblivion, uninstalled Oblivion mod manager and uninstalled the construction set. I have now re installed them without any mods. If I rebuild my mod will it be dependent on OBMM? I know it will require the official oblivion patch 1.2.404 because I did download and install the patch.

it shouldn't be. :)

thats terrible to have lost that much work though :( at least this time you have the experience of last time xD

I'm certain you can remove a master or dependency from a mod you're working on because I've made the same mistake before, I just can't quite remember how I did it, I think when I selected my mod to load, the masters show up in the right panel? and then you just highlight and delete, however I could be mixing it up with Wrye Bash, too, so I'm going to try and see if I can fix one here. I'll let you know what I find out in a few minutes. Understand it's 2am and I'm needing to go to bed again soon. Just up, because I couldn't sleep.

Ok, Bash wouldn't let me delete it.

In the CS, I don't have that Easy Companion Share mod loaded so it's bellyachin' when I try to delete it. Just like I said above.. Set your mod as active, note the dependencies in the right pane, click on the ECS and click your delete key on your keyboard.

You'll probably have to reinstall that ECS mod temporarily for you to be able to take it out without crashing.

Still experimenting.

Ok so I was able to get Wrye Bash to allow me to change (or more like substitute) another mod for that master though it wouldn't let me delete it.

So I decided to change the dependency to one I have: I've been playing with CM Partners lately so chose that one, although I also have Companion Share Recruit by Toastie, which I've used for a long time now.

That worked so now I should be able to load it into CS without crashing since I have those esm.s

It WORKED, I just deleted CM Partners from the mod so the mod is only dependent on Oblivion.esm now. It loaded up fine, and I'll email it back to you!

I'll give it a run through in the next few days or so.

Only problem is, the Oblivion.esm is the SI edition! You might have to try bashing it yourself if you have trouble opening it. Just let me know.

Actually, it shouldn't effect it if you have SI installed, since the activation files are in SI's own esp, only the resources are shown in the oblivion.esm, incase you need them. However, I assume you've patched the game with SI version of 1.2.0416 and I'm not sure how it'll react to that, if it reacts at all. Most likely it should be all good to go.

Myrmaad... I love you! Thank you, Thank you a thousand times thank you and a thousand times that. I have my mod back. When I thought it was lost, I have to admit that I was a little depressed. I moped around the house grumbling. My wife tried to cheer me up but nothing worked. That lasted for about fifteen minuets and then I said "What the hell?" I deleted everything and started rebuilding. I had placed the last panel in my cave when I decided to take a break and read a little on this forum. I don't know how you did it but I stand humbled by your intellect and your modding prowess. I sheath my sword, remove my helm, kneel and swear undying gratitude.

Somebody should write a tutorial about this or at the least, a warning.

heh, that's very sweet, and I understand it's the INVESTMENT of yourself you've put into this thing. But stand up worthy knight. You're doing a wonderful job! I'm just a hack with a knack.

And X DLC X,

thanks for the tip!
