nemoricus
Alright, my Ebony Shields are showing up as purple blobs, which means that something's missing. I've looked through my mods and can't come up with something that would conflict. So, any help would be appreciated.
Varus Torvyn
If you've added any mods that change Meshes &/or Textures for shields, then that's your probable culprit.
nemoricus
Hmm...I found an Ebony Armor texture in my folder, which I deleted, to no avail. An archive validator didn't find anything else. I've checked all of my mods that I've recently added, and the only one that I know alters Ebony Armor specifically is the Unofficial Oblivion Patch. Disabling that didn't work. EDIT: I first had the golden texture disappear from the shield, leaving it black. I believe it went to purple after I ran a validator.
Varus Torvyn
Try disabling all of your mods (but not the Unofficial Patches, DLCs, or SI) then booting Oblivion. Ignore the message of missing content when loading your last save. That should force Oblivion to load from its original files for shields. Then you can reactivate one mod at a time, then running the game off of the same save to see which mod is the perpetrator. Only thing is, that one file you deleted means you're going to have to download & reinstall whichever mod contained that file.
nemoricus
Erm...tactical nuke level measures have failed. I still have the problem. That's without the mods came with an esp. Not all of them did. Should I manually search my folder? If so, what should I look for?
Varus Torvyn
Well if you're running Omods then OBMM would be needed to disable those. If you didn't have this problem the last time you ran the game, then the most recent modification you activated for the game did it. I've been fairly fortunate, I chose to install quest-mods more so than mods that changed items. I've got a couple of those, but none cause conflicts like that. nemoricus
Okay, new problem. I installed a glass armor retexture, and now parts are disappearing. It was working fine until after the Ebony shield problem started. I'm going to check this one out. By the way, I'm not using omods. EDIT: The glass problem has been fixed. I had to remove the retexture, but it worked. EDIT2: My Ebony shield problem still exists, in case it wasn't clear.
LFact
Purple blobs...... that means missing texture. If you use Archive Invalidation for texture replacer, sometimes, it goes wrong, making objects purple, or invisible.
nemoricus
Yes, the title should say texture. However, the texture was black before I took an archive invalidator to my folder. I'm fairly sure that it turned the shield purple. I checked my Archive Invalidation text file and deleted the reference, but it's still purple. EDIT: Problem solved, hopefully. Seems I had a case of overzealous invalidation. Deleting the text file seems to have fixed the problem. I have texture again. Thanks, both of you. Just a quick question. Do either of you know why Oblivion would crash when exiting out? Especially after playing for a while? EDIT2: Ah-ha! It's that glass armor retexture! Somehow its archive invalidation is messing up my ebony shields.
Varus Torvyn
Oblivion either by itself with only Official Patches or + the Unofficial Patches will exit okay. For some reason, adding in certain mods changes Oblivion enough to cause my game to activate the Microsoft Error Reporting System. Since mods cannot change the actual Bethesda Files, my guess is certain variables that the Exit Subroutine utilizes could have values set by mods that cause it to perform an incorrect exit to Windows. I wish Microsoft would send this MERS data to Bethesda (in the vain hope that it might cause them to patch the Exit Subroutine), but that's worse than wishing on a falling star, or flipping a coin into a fountain or a well.
