Can't dismiss companions

Ok I found something else. Might give this a shot and see if it works.

 

Open the console, and then target the companion. Type in-

 

 

cqf FollowersExtension "EFF:CompanionManager.SetCompanion" RefID true true

and

cqf FollowersExtension "EFF:CompanionManager.SetCompanion" RefID False False

The place where it says "RefID" you put the RefID of the companion which you can find by clicking on them in console.

I shoulda mentioned this before, but I was really tired, and it slipped my mind. I am sooo sorry!

When this bug hits on the ps4, and from some of the other people I've read from with this or very similar problems, a reinstall does NOT solve the problem. It's not in the game files, the bug is written into the save files. I can verify that, as when I got stuck with Strong, I reinstalled, and he was still broken. I started another character, and had no problem with any of the companions.

Yeah, I know the issue is written into the save file - I have 2 characters in total and the other one has no problems with companions, even though both are run on the same installation and mods :)

 

Unfortunately I haven't been able to check out some of the earlier solutions yet as I don't have much time for gaming this week, but I will get back to it on the weekend.

 

I really appreciate you investing your time in trying to help me on this - thanks a lot! I will post an update once I can check out all the tips you provided :)

Heh yeah, I know what ya mean by not having a lot of time for gaming.

I've been wanting to experiment around with some mod ideas but haven't had the time for it either.

I noticed this guy had same problem with Preston, and he fixed it with a mod. https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/5937998-preston-wont-bugger-off/

I dunno if that will help you out or not, but hey...worth a try?

 

Nooooo problem! I know how irritating this bug can be! And it sucks that it infiltrates almost every save game for the particular character!

Good, was hoping that you hadn't reinstalled because of this. That's a LOT of time spent in downloading.

(Btw, if you have an external hard drive, or a lot of free disk space, I'd DEFINITELY recommend doing backups of your game installs, and your save games. Had to reinstall mine about 4 hours ago due to a mod that made my pip boy VANISH.) Good thing I keep backups or I woulda been pretty ticked.

 

Edit #2 I may have come across something. Are you using these mods, or some mod that causes the same effect on your companions?

Companion Infinite Ammo and no break power armor

Welcome to good neighbor

or any mod that basically gives you infinite building in your settlements.

Or any mod that allows you to bring any extra companions/followers (or effects Dogmeat).

 

If so, dismiss your other companions and create a new hard save, of course

totally exit the game, exit to desktop.

disable all the mods that do what I mentioned above.

manually load your last save, don't use the continue.

Clean save, hard save, not quick or auto save.

Exit to desktop.

Boot it back up and see if the companion works.

Well, nothing seems to be working - something must have seriously messed up my save :/ Then again, minding how many different mods I've been trying out, uninstalling, updating etc. on that character, it's kind of amazing that this is the only problem I encountered lol

 

On the bright side, I have only Nuka World left on this playthrough, so I think I'll just finish this game and then do a huge clean up, reinstal FO4, the mods and also finally drop NMM and get MO2.

Fallout 4 bug,can't dismiss to settlements. I know this is an old thread. I just recently had this problem. 150 mod limit on xbox1. I disabled all the mods. Had a few sneaking suspicions. The mod culprit 4 me is Amazing Follower Tweaks and I like this mod so much that I won't delete it. Combined with a few other mods I can basically create my own follower with any preset I can download. But with the limit of 32 followers. So basically I can use aft to assign a home with that mod structure but if I don't they will always go to default location. I'm choosing to keep the mod, but that's where my issue lies. Hope that helps.

In my current playthrough, Codsworth got stuck between being recruited and dismissed. I could be in downtown and he'd stay in Sanctuary, but when I used AFT's "gather all loose items" the items would go to his inventory. Some might consider that a useful way to get junk back to the settlement, I guess. Fortunately the commands quoted below were successful at dismissing him. I'll put them into a batch file for future use.

 

open console and click on the follower you may have this problem with and enter the following commands:

setconsolescopequest followers

emptyrefalias companion

setplayerteammate 0
