[EMERGENCY] I can't talk to anyone in Skyrim out of the blue!

I had that happen to me with the following procedure:

1 - Buy an Identity-Concealing Mask that you can have with the Sneak Tools mod.

2 - Disenchant it.

3 - Enchant a bandanna with the "Identity-concealing".

4 - Wear the bandanna.

5 - Completely forget about steps 1-5.

6 - ...

7 - ... Wonder why people don't speak to me for about half an hour.

I'm having a similar, yet slightly different problem.

The weird thing for me is that I can talk to most people, but not everyone. Guards? No problem. Most vendors? ok. Stagecoach driver? nope. Named beggar in Riften? nope as well.

I did just get the Nightingale hood, which hides ID, but I tried taking it off and still couldn't talk to those people. I also just tried disabling Sneak Tools, still no good with only those few people.

I just finished the quest, got the Nightingale hood, talked to Inigo (to start him, been installed but I haven't picked him up yet on this save - though have before), walked outside to buy Inigo a horse, and can't talk to them.

Any other ideas?

update: I also happen to have a really old save just at the same point in the nightingale quest so went and opened it up. That one had no problems at all talking to all the same npcs that my more recent playthrough cannot...

Had this problem when I was playing with Sneak Tools. Could be resolved by unequipping face covering masks. Apparently people don't like chatting with someone whose face they can't see, because he could murder them without the guards being able to put up a bounty. So before abandoning Sneak Tools altogether, check if that "masked" effect is on your character.

Omg it seems so obvious now! I'd be warry of a masked man myself lol

I had the same problem, the mod that i found messed it up is http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19447/?.

Yeah, sneak tools can screw you over (personal experience). I avoid wearing masks that have the effect of hiding your identity. I am not sure if your save game is screwed, but you should remove the mod. If you still like the mod you should reinstall it.

I have been using Sneak Tools for months, hundred hours/month. And never a problem like this, except when, as said, I put on an identity-concealing mask/hood. Mine works just fine.
