Changed my horse mods, now can't use Horses

I've been using Convenient Horses for a while, but wanted to switch back to Immersive Horses, because that's just my preference. So I went through the uninstall instructions I could find online, and when it was done I couldn't interact with my horse anymore - I walk up, the 'Press E to Interact' prompt appears on screen, but when I press the button it makes the same noise it would if I were interacting with empty air.

Okay, that was fine, I half expected to have problems with that save file - so I deleted the save and started fresh. I use the console to get myself to Whiterun and give myself the gold to buy a horse, and the same thing happens.

Tried removing and installing a few more mods, break the game at one point so it won't open at all, then got frustrated and deleted ALL of my mods and save files, reinstalling one by one until I'm finally ready to play again... and the SAME THING HAPPENED. :psyduck:

Any advice?

Sorry for the Necromancy, but after five months, I figured it was worth asking this question again in case somebody has some new information.

After removing Convenient Horses, even starting a brand new game I can't interact with horses at all, the interact key makes the same soft noise it would make if I'd pressed it while pointing at the sky. I'd really prefer to be using Immersive Horses, but I can't make it work!

Not the bringer of good news but if I where you I'd start fresh, and I mean really fresh like uninstall everything, remove the DATA folder, start from absolute zero and use Mod Organizer 2 to keep your core folders clean from mods.

MO2 uses an entirely different, and safe way, of putting mods into your game, this way it should be impossible for disabled mods to haunt a new game.

Thanks for the advice, I didn't know that about Mod Organizer.

I did eventually end up with a fresh install, obliterating everything and downloading a new copy from Steam, but I went with Vortex this time around.
