Kyrenjai
After days and days of "torment" lol.....I started deactivating---deleting ALL my Mods. Still freezing and CTD. The 2 things that always happened when these 2 events ocurred were... 1) when CTD there was tab at screen bottom (Microsoft Visual C ++)... 2) when it froze up (and when I rebooted, Steam Update News was first thing to pop up). When I uninstalled Microsoft Visual C ++, I lost my AVG Program--so I had to re-install Microsoft Visual C++ and AVG to stay safe. When I unchecked Dawnguard....the problems have disappeared. Now, I very much want to continue with Dawnguard. In the meantime,I have been playing my second toon. How do I "fix" it so I can start Dawnguard back up? I'm pretty sure I have a clean save on my Main Toon who nvr had Dawnguard installed when I was playing him. I know others r playing thru Dawnguard and I can't imagine it is only me that has this particular problem. There has to b a solution, right? TonyTitan
You might have gotten a bad install of Dawnguard. Have you tried deleting the .bsa and .esm files for Dawnguard from your Skyrim folder and having Steam reinstall it?

ivanover
[ No, I haven't tried that but I will surely do that. TY for offerring up this help. I don't think this will help, unless hundreds of users have had a bad install.I mean, this happens to me too, it CTDs randomly and this is game-breaking, rather then just annoying.Waiting for an unofficial patch (with the freezing of the screen on the first release of Skyrim, Bethesda took two whole months to fix that bug.)BTW: - Windows XP- ATI 4870- Core 2 duo E8600 Skyrim (without Dawguard) and other dozens of games run fine without issues.I stopped playing Skyrim/dawguard a week ago, sadly.
