A game worth saving? Or best to move on?

I have no idea whether or not this topic goes in this area of the forum but I am at my wits end. So I'm just gonna post this and hope for the best.

My NV game has gone bat guano crazy in the past two days. After playing for around 5 minutes (roughly), the screen flickers a pinkish-purple hue. Then when I fast travel to another area...my god...the horrors.

I'm bloody speechless at this.

At first I thought it had something to do with I.W.S. mod (since it was the last thing I downloaded). However, even deactivating that mod proved fruitless, as all these problems stayed in game.

One complete vanilla reinstall later, sans IWS, I started it back up.

I was missing a few mods from the previous game though, (a dozen or so) so I reinstalled them as well.

And the purple came back.

These are the mods I re downloaded:

Caesars New Regime - The main file, the vanilla body patch, Mission Mojave patch, and the update for the underground home

NCR - rearmed and rearmament along with the optional chest rig file

faster terminals

Magic 8 ball

extended repair kits

Better Mojave Outpost barracks

blood textures

I'm not sure if any of these have caused a problem with anyone but it seems in order to pinpoint the culprit I would have to do a reinstall for every mod...which I'd rather not do.

The only other thing I can think if, is the fact that I may have WAY too many mods activated. My index in NMM is up to 145 and I wasn't even done looking through Nexus yet.

So yeah I'm at a loss as to what to do to save my game...I'm totally not above reinstalling it....a fourth time *twitch*....But without something to at least point me in a good direction to fix this...

I don't know...perhaps I'll wait until Fallout 4 comes out and Gambryo can rot in gaming hell.

Thanks for any help you guys can give.

The last time I saw that "!" in pictures, it was the Tales of Two Wastelands mod. But idk I think this is a common problem for multiple mods. I think it prevents your game from crashing or indicates there's a conflict. But that weird sky is actually surprising me. It isn't meant to be like that, is it? Did you install a mod lately? It could be the problem, since you had no problems before. Did you change anything lately. That is most likely the problem. Edited by guusert

Your issue is easy to fix, you either:

1. Have to many mods installed.

2. Have to many items in your Data folder (.esm/.esp/.bsa all count even if they are not turned on).

3. You may need to regenerate your FALLOUT.INI and FalloutPrefs.ini (forgot that one).

Or it could be your computer overheating, but I think its one of those 3 myself.

@Guusert

Unfortunately I don't have Two Wastelands mod, so that isn't the problem. And yeah, all this madness started recently. One of those pics is actually from two days ago right before I did a complete reinstall of the game, then added a handful of mods, and the problem happened again. And before all that, the game was working perfectly up until now. No problems whatsoever. If there is a conflict I'm honestly not sure where because the game loaded fine, and everything was peachy for a short time. Then I entered my Pip boy, the screen flickered purple, I exited the pip boy and looked around so see all the textures were still fine, then fast traveled to The Fort to see the hill staring back at me. O-o

Ze hills...zey have eyes!

@Nivea

When all this insanity started, I was wondering if I had actually hit the limit on mods or not. I had just gotten through watching some of Gophersvids and someone in the comments section had asked this very thing. He said don't put more than 100 esp's in the load order, I think. I looked at mine and, at the time, I was at 120 or so and the game worked fine. So I kept adding mods lol.

I guess I'll have to look through a list of mods I wanted to use and see which ones I can be without. Though I doubt that will be an easy task. Everyone of the mods I picked is needed in one way or another.

Does regenerating my ini files allow for more mods to be added? How would I regenerate them?

Thank both of you for your help.

Using a mod manager or doing it the old fashioned say? Double check for folder in folders where they should for meshes and see if you got an extra folder layer where it shouldn't be like a doubled mesh/mesh folder or a data/data folder if that actually makes sense.

Benjango: You can have up to 255 mods loaded at one time, I highly suggest you do not have that many. You more then likely have to many items in your data folder, make a new random folder and place all your unused .esp/.esm/.bsa files in that.

Regenerating the ini will not give you any more mods, it will simply make sure nothing was screwed up by you or a installer that edited the ini. Make copies before you do so.

I have had this exact thing happen to me many times, since Oblivion. Its more then likely to many mods and items.

@Nivea

So I look over my mods, find something that isn't activated or being used, and put it in a separate folder inside the NV directory? If it isn't being used wouldn't be better to delete it altogether? I see three esp's not checked in my load order in NMM though...I'll look through it.

and what is the best way to regen an ini file? restart a game?

Wow...pardin my french but holy shitskittles....

I thought looking through my Data folder for somthin to delete or move was going to be long and arduous process, as though trying to find a few rogue files was equivalent to a needle in a haystack.

I spent five seconds in there and I'm seeing readme's, word documents, HTML documents, and a video file.

....a feckin....video file...wow I need to pay more attention to the mods I activate.

Man that's embarrassing...

Well I said put them in a separate folder in case you wanted them later ect, I always remove mods I am not using myself but a lot of people can not seem to be able to just let go of a mod lol.

I normally open up Wyre Bash ( http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/35003 ) and just delete from there every .esp I am not using or plan on using ever. It shows you easily what your using and all you have to do is click on it and hit delete button, BUT keep in mind it does NOT go in your trash can so no recovering.

Yeah I know what you mean on 'mods that I cannot be without.' A lot of the mods I decided to use are here cuz I figured they were 100% needed for my game. lol

I went through all of Gophersvids and downloaded those mods to make the game resemble something that more or less should have been what NV was supposed to look like / run like in my opinion.

Then I went on a binge on the nexus with mods that just made sense to have in the game.

I'm starting to look into trying to merge some mods together...but I've no idea how to do that.

I read that FNV edit, which I have, is the best way to do that.

Time to google some tutorials.
