infininano
When I'm playing skyrim, I normally get around 60 fps on high settings with a HD texture pack. Then I decide to install the Sanctum of the Fallen mod and the ApachiiSkyHair mod. When using the mods for the first time, it didn't decrease my fps at all until about 45 minutes of in game playing. Then it starts stuttering when I move my mouse and explore the sanctum and even outdoors. I tried to load previous saves but it stills stutters and I also made sure there wasn't any background processes going on. So I uninstalled all the mods and load a save again but it still at around 10 fps, 20fps maximum if I put the settings on low without the HD textures. My laptop specs i7-3610QM processor8 gb of RAMGeForce GTX 660M GPU I really don't know what's the problem because I can play my other gaming on the highest setting smoothly. Please I really need some help, thank you.
demidekidasu
It actually sounds like it could be the infamous Nvidia clock-speed bug of recent drivers, and perhaps coincidence that it started after installing some new mods. I have Nvidia cards myself and see it now and again, and once thought it was being caused by a recently-installed mod also. A simple restart of the machine does the trick! If it's not that, I don't know, sorry!
tonycubed2
I have two suggestion, it fixed my issues with my nvidia cards. The first I will copy paste here as I worked it out: 1) downloaded and ran procmon from Microsoft to monitor the running proceses to see what was so fascinating that the ckit had to stop for 10 minutes to do "it".2) After a few red herrings I noticed that two files kept running all the time: nvsmartmaxapp.exe and nvsmartmaxapp64.exe from the folder c:\program files\nvidia corporation\display3) researched the files, they throttle the video card to save energy and to cut down on heat. Junk!!! I do not run two 690 cards in sli mode to save energy. What is Nvidia smoking???4) I renamed the files as .old, rebooted, problem solved. ckit runs fine now, and the game in not affected or impaired. Life is good. Suggestion two: stuttering in skyrim is often caused by improper fps. Turn off mouse acceleration and use the following mod: (fixed graphics tearing, mouse stuttering, etc, and yest, it sound counter to what you are trying to do but fps has a huge effect on skyrim when too high: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/
infininano
Well I tried the first suggestion and it seem to have worked for some reason, restarted my computer, loaded Skyrim and the fps when back up around 60. Thank you demidekidasu for your help and thank for the other suggestions tonycubed2.
tetradite
Once again a triumph for the mighty hammer of turning-it-off-and-back-on-again
demidekidasu
@infininano:NP! Glad it helped! It's a bug with the driver where the core clock speed will get stuck in one of the low-power states. Annoying to say the least! I personally choose to deal with it and not revert to an older driver because the newer drivers bring some nice new features to the table otherwise. @tonycubed2:I have 2x GTX 470's in SLI and used to think the same way as yourself. But then I get sick of hearing the fans gunning for glory 24/7, so turned the power-saving mode back on. The proper way to turn power saving on or off is done via the power options in windows control panel.
