Serana: Welcome or Unwelcome?

sorry for necro its just that I played Dawnguard only recently and after finishing it 3 times in row...

Well Serana ...I have nothing much against her from game mechanics point of view as after months of soloing

I am actually glad someone always is around, BUT...I do not like her that much from my character's point of view simply cause:

A - she is a daughter of coldharbour (since I cannot take part in such ritual ingame and be identified with her and Valerica)

B - She took part in willingly...my character sees own dignity as top priority.

C - Even if she didn't , still there's only this lesser- half- mixed blood option.

Oh yes, my character is extremely jealous sometimes so actually she took pleasure dominating over Harkon:P

Just to show them that pure blood or not..you are no match.

I welcome her, ony thing that pisst me off was that she was flirting whit my char and when my char askt about marrige she says no! That *censored*!

I reckon she rather never got along with her initiation and then she spent eras alone so maybe that's why

It's more that she's deathly afraid of temples insofar as the story goes I think. Game mechanically this isn't shown granted and that kinda sucks...

yeah even if it was possible I wouldn't marry her anyway....I was so struck when I played Dawnguard for 1st and 2nd time.

Now I just want to kill her along with her pathethic father and valerica :wallbash:

NOT welcome. I never liked having a follower around before, but Serana is worse than the others.

Why do we have to allowe her to force herself on us during the DG questline? I sided with the DG. I kill vampires. I don't escort them home, I don't play nice with them, and I definitely don't want them with me when I'm about to retrieve the bow that THEY want. The game even forced me to vouch for her to Isran. I wanted to tell him that I do not trust her at all and I think it would be better if we just killed her.

For a ROLL PLAYING GAME, Skyrim left us very little room to roll play in DG. I know the questline as it is can't proceed without Serana (because you need her to find her mother and the scroll), but I call that laziness on Bethesda's end. They could've made a slightly different questline for those that side with the DG and want to kill Serana as soon as you find out she's a vampire.

By the way, what's the deal with her just handing you bloodcursed arrows after the questline? Didn't we just put a LOT of work into making sure that the prophecy wouldn't be completed? Just like that she doesn't care anymore? And why is Valerica so sure that Harkon would kill her or Serana for their blood, when apparently there is no need for that? Just a little cut in her finger to get some blood is enough... plot holes.

There are a couple of reasons I keep DG installed: Crossbows (+gun mods), some new spells and shouts, the aetherium quest, werewolf perks, vampire lord (different character) and some other mods that require DG. The DG questline itself and Serana are not among those reasons.

Harkon wanted to put out the sun forever which apparently requires sacrificing a "daughter of coldharbour" :whistling:

Or Serana said...somewhere along the lines after they received their power her family went apart..mad and paranoid so pick one

Besides I keep DG around as well, but don't like it that much as they are pure blood ancients and I get to play some watered down lord? With no ritual? meh :whistling:

Welcome, absolutely. Her constant raising of the dead is quite annoying, but killing them gives me more skill points so I won't complain too much. I am also not a fan of being impaled by an ice spike from behind as I finish off a bandit.

What I like about her though, is that she has an acual personality, something the majority of NPC's in Skyrim lack. Serana is an example of how Bethesda are capable of doing better when it comes to NPC's and especially followers. I don't mind most NPC's not being incredibly interesting, but the followers really should be. Serana isn't perfect, but she's the best we've got when it comes to followers.

I don't really use followers, unless I'm forced to. I find they mostly just get in my way. I don't mind having Serana with me though, even if I don't use her more than I have to.

I tried to kill her when we first met, but no dice. I found it very annoying, too, that I was forced by the game scripting to declare my friendship and trust when my character would have had no part in that---frankly I think Isran would have killed her on sight the first time he saw her. He's so fanatic about vampires that he never sleeps, and yet he sees her and is like, well maybe all vampires aren't all bad? He barely knows me---it seems more likely that a vampire saying she wants to see me would result in Isran killing us both!

I have a lovely follower I made myself, and I prefer him to Serana, but to continue the quest I had to dismiss him at one point. Fortunately (maybe due to UFO) I was later able to "dismiss" Serana and reunite with my follower. Serana showed up after that whenever she felt necessary and I couldn't make her go away, but at least I had my guy, too.

I know people say they love the voice actor, but I found her diction pretty horrendous--she drops the ending consonant of pretty much every word out of her mouth. That combined with the lack of resonance in her voice, I frequently lost half of what she was saying. And yet she kept on talking....

Despite all that, I like a lot about the DG DLC. I never used bows, but Crossbows are crazy fun. I liked a few of the other characters, especially Gunmar. I went in being totally over the vampire thing, and even so, I found a lot of the quests interesting and fun. I really hope to see more mod content based on the assets of this DLC,
