Eh. I never liked Oblivion. The faces were off-putting, and it got tiring after hearing the same four (or was it five?) voices all the time. Shame that I couldn't get past that part, the graphics were pretty nice, despite the animations.

I'd recommend Daggerfall. It is pretty fun, played thirty minutes of it earlier. The only problem I have with it is remembering all the keys to press. TOO MANY SHORTCUTS!

If we were to acknowledge both games' depth, leaving graphics aside, Oblivion would most likely be TES V ;)

I completely agree! If Oblivion could be brought to Skyrim graphical level and combat system (sorry but Oblivion is not so great when it comes to combat) then it would beat Skyrim in nearly every aspect, even without Dragons or Shouts (anybody use any shout other than "Fusrodah" regulary?)

Ethereal shout is very useful, not to mention the fun you can have jumping off mountains.

I agree though. Oblivion was better in everything but graphics and combat. I think it is better than morrowind too, now that I've finally gotten around to playing that.

If you are willing to heavily mod games, Oblivion curb stomps Skyrim in just about everything except graphics. Vanilla Oblivion is still worth a look, especially if you get your hands on Shivering Isles.

I'm talking unmodded here. Oblivion modding has a few years on skyrim modding. Already there are several great mods. When all the DLC's and patches are out, thats when we'll get a true view on which is the best game after mods are added. I played both unmodded on the PS3 and both modded on PC. I preferred vanilla oblivion but modded Skyrim was better all round.

I have started playing morrowind for the first time using the new overhaul. I'm not really getting the same buzz as I got off of oblivion when I first played it.

I never cared for the argument that it is best judge a game after all the addons and patches much less mods have been developed. It isn't as if customers are all waiting for GotY editions or complete overhauls. In the case of Oblivion vs Skyrim, I find it best to judge each on their current merits and currently, Oblivion is just the better value.

As a side note, to me, a deadly reflex/unnecessary violence modded Oblivion to be more dynamic than Skyrim's combat system. Skyrim's graphics are the only thing I see as definitively better at this point though I feel Shivering Isles is more stylish than Skyrim.

Blasphemy... I know

Yup.

Daggerfall was awesome. A landmass larger than Great Britain, 10000 or so different locations to visit, a main quest that took months to complete, multiple endings, boobs in vanilla, vampirism and lycanthropy (including wereboars!) realized more fully than in any other TES game, banks, horses, carts, climbing, etc. etc. etc.

Of course, that was back when gaming companies were actually owned by gamers. Oh well. It was a fun ride while it lasted.

Daggerfall was a big favorite with me, too. I loved how the game was obviously designed for adults, not kids. My only gripes were the bugs and the godawful never-ending dungeons.

I've played Oblivion into the ground, and the lack of mods tailored for how I like my characters is partly why I no longer play. Right now, I'm getting another copy of the GoTY so I can do Morroblivion. I'm having loads of fun with Skyrim, though.
