acko123
I modded skyrim with vortex, but i need to reinstall my windows. Will the mods be saved on my account so I can just download them?I spent a lot of time searching for each individual mod on google, I'd hate to do it again
Guest deleted34304850
if you are concerned about losing files, then back them up before you do anything like re-installing windows.however, if you downloaded all your mods from nexusmods, then the website has a list of everything you have downloaded from the site, and you can use that to re-download anything you think you may have lost. if you have downloaded mods from other sites, then i don't know.but - back up all the files you want to keep, and back them up often, because issues can happen at any time, and you need to be prepared for the worst, and being able to get your data back.this isn't a vortex issue, however, it's basic data management 101. rmm200
Copy your Vortex Downloads folder to a flash drive before you reinstall. That should contain the archives of all your mods. You will have to reinstall your mods in Vortex, but that is quick and very simple compared to the other problems you will face reinstalling Windows. AugustaCalidia
Have you considered using the Windows install option that allows you to keep your old files? Anyway, whatever you do, back up everything.

Keeping the old files is not a problem. It is losing the registry entries and licenses for installed programs...Normally takes me a solid week to recover everything. Or at least the parts that are recoverable. And lets not even talk about Windows license key...
AugustaCalidia
@rmm200 Thanks for the reminder. I knew that but had a brain malfunction. Would a registry backup solve the problem?
rmm200
N @rmm200 Thanks for the reminder. I knew that but had a brain malfunction. Would a registry backup solve the problem? No - you really don't want to replace the registry a new install gives you. What we would like is a merge function to pick up all the program installs - but that does not exist.Just as well - the Registry holds onto a lot of old and outdated stuff. A clean start is good. But a pain.
