scottym23
The mod i'd most like to see happen for this game is one that makes the combat and other features of the game as realistic as possible. I'm not just talking about the typical requests people have when asking for a mod like this such as the features that FNV has in hardcore mode, but beyond that. Here are some of my ideas and a little description on how they would work: ---When crippled due to one of your limbs being shot, you can't heal them with just a stimpack. You'll also need a medical brace too. So one stimpack plus one medical brace would be required for a crippled limb to be healed. It would also be possible to get your limbs healed by visiting a doctor and having him patch you up. ---Players won't be able to use the Pipboy or open/loot containers or people while in combat. This is a must since it's entirely unrealistic that you can stop an entire battle and monsters/enemies from attacking you because you've opened your Pipboy and want to switch your weapons, use a stimpack, or pop a drug. The same principle stands for looting dead bodies or containers; doesn't make too much sense to open them and have everyone wait until you're done. ---The most important and crucial part of this mod would be the damage boost not only to all enemies, but to enemies and what they do damage wise to you. This is the reason why whenever I play fallout 3 I need to play a sneak character and get his sneak to 100 as quick as possible to keep the realism in check, because I can't justify or reason with myself how running into an area with 10 super mutant masters and brutes with mini guns simultaneously shooting at me while I stand there taking it like a Behemoth is realistic. So to counteract this, I propose a serious change (some might consider this a complete overhaul) of the amount of damage weapons deal. Let's go into detail about this: *If not wearing protective headgear (like a combat helmet, power helmet, ect.) and an average gun gets a clean shot to your head (like a shotgun, hunting rifle, sniper rifle, .44 magnum, ect.) then you should be dead. Simple as that. This should go for all the characters in the game besides super mutants and mutated monsters that it may be reasonable to assume they can take a little more damage before going down. Maybe 2 shots for a super mutant to the head, and possibly 3 for a super mutant master or brute. *On the opposite side of the spectrum now, any robot type monster (besides a robobrain because that obviously needs it's head region as much as humans do) will take normal damage to their head area comparable to being shot anywhere else in the body. Doing more damage when hitting the head area of a robot never really made sense to me. *Two or three shots to any limb (arms or legs) will result in it being instantly crippled. There's no way that an arm can be used like normal with 2 clean hunting rifle shots, it just isn't logical. I've already addressed what it would take to heal a broken limb. However if you have protective armor on such as power armor, the amount of shots a limb could take before being crippled would change significantly depending on the DT. *Explosive weapons would do serious damage and would mostly be instant deaths to most creatures in the blast radius. The only exceptions to this would be (as usual) certain mutated creatures and possibly different types of robots. But remember, explosives would be a crucial part of this type of gaming experience. If it takes only a few shots to potentially kill you, then it's important to realize that if there's a large group of enemies in a certain location, that explosives might be the only way to deal with them all without getting killed. I know some people won't like this because it'll in a sense force them to train their explosives skill (or at the least bring explosive weapons with them such as frag grenades). But this mod wouldn't be for everyone, only the people who want a truly realistic experience. And this is very realistic to have to resort to explosives to take out large groups of enemies. *Melee weapons will be the most difficult to use for obvious reasons (the fact that if you're charging straight at the enemy with a melee weapon 9/10 times you'll get blasted to death before you even get within 5 feet of them), but will be the most rewarding, dealing the most damage. 1-2 melee swipes would be sufficient in taking down mostly all enemies with descent melee weapons (like super sledges). It should go without saying that the higher your sneak skill the easier it would be to use your melee weapons. ---The sneak skill will have to have it's affects increased to a certain degree to where it's realistic. If it's night and you're not in a city or an area that's lit, being crouched it's possible that an enemy wouldn't be able to see you if you were 15-20 feet directly in front of them. If you're behind the enemy, then obviously you could get directly behind them and almost be touching them before they'd have any idea that someone might be around. The same goes for daytime, if you're behind someone and crouched you should be able to get in melee distance before they suspect you're there. These are the main points that should really be implemented first before any additional features are added, but here are a few suggestions that I didn't think were necessary but would be good to include nonetheless: ---The obvious drinking water, eating food, and sleeping as requirements such as in FNV's hardcore mode (i'm aware there's probably a mod like this already out there for fo3 so if that's the case it won't be necessary to remake it, just make sure that the other mod is compatible with this one). ---Remove energy weapons from the game for the most obvious of reasons. Clearly they aren't realistic and would be best left out of the game. Although i'm aware a lot of people love them so maybe there could be two different versions of this mod, one with energy weapons still included and one with them taken out of the game. Those are all my ideas for this mod, I hope this would interest people and possibly get seen by the right type of person who could make this possible! Please comment on whether you think this mod is appropriate for the game or not and if you support it or don't. Any criticism is good criticism :). Thanks for reading all of this! bfg10k17
I do approve of this idea, but I'll say it now. There's a lot of work to be done. This won't be a simple mod, and on occasions the modder(s) would need to modify hardcoded parts, or add things that were not taken into considaration while the developers made this game.If a (or more) talented modder(s) started to work on this mod, it would take months just for it to get out of alpha status, and a year tops (on top of those months) to make it into a fully funtionable mod.Don't want to break this for you, but there is little chance such a mod will be made. Sorry. Edited August 25, 2012 by bfg10k17

However I don't know if there are any modders willing to take on a project of this magnitude because of the newer games which people are playing more, and therefore would be where modders want to go (like FNV or Skyrim). I'm just throwing the idea out there though, in the hopes that maybe a couple good modders find it worth devoting some time to. Thanks again for your support! :)
charwo
FWE has a vision of everything, and I mean everything you want. Even if FWE is not what you want exactly, it would be a good place to start for comparison purposes.
