thefirewarriors
Hi all, first time here at the forums. Just asking if there's already been a fix for the quite rare Wispmother Smoke glitch some people have experienced that can't be solved by the transform/sexchange/removespell method. The reason I'm asking is because I got hit and couldn't find one after about three days of searching (read, Nexus mods and Google) and decided to brave the dangers of CK to make my own. Suffice to say, I succeeded. For background, the Wispmother Glitch is a variant of the Smoke Glitch that occurs when the animated effects of a monster (usually atronachs or dwarven centurions) are applied to the player character, commonly during the Blackreach segment of the MQ. This is normally solved by using Beast Form, Become Ethereal, or using the add/removespell and sexchange commands in the console. However, the Wispmother Glitch is a tenacious bast4rd and keeps coming back no matter what you do, bringing the FPS of even mid-tier rigs grinding to a halt. If you wanna get rid of that nasty glitch, look in Miscellaneous/Art Object/Wisp/Character Assets and double-click the FXWispParticleAttachObject and click edit on the model line. Click edit once again. A new window will open up. Click cancel. The model line will now be empty. Click OK and save your mod as wispfix.esp or something. Activate via launcher or NMM. ----- The only downside here is that wispmothers and wisp shades will also have their FX removed. It might conflict with any other mods regarding wisps that modify the FX. I've attached the .esp I created for those who don't have CK or don't know how to use it. EDIT: Haha, I meant my first post at the Skyrim forums. I used to post in the Fallout forums. Edited August 27, 2012 by thefirewarriors

Aleonymous
Thanks. I had the exact same problem and your file fixed it! I also got this glitch in Blackreach. I was playing with the Hypothermia-mod and my character had started "freezing" just at the moment of the fight with the Wispmother, so I figured that the visual effect/glitch was related to my "freezing" character. I had progressed quite a bit before I finally decided something was wrong and reloading older saves was not an option....

steve40
The OP's solution will break the wisp magic effect, and will only hide, not remove the shader effect from the player. Don't use it. I have created a definitive bugfix that does not break the effect. My bugfix fixes two buggy scripts and makes the shader effect stop playing when the magic effect is dispelled. INSTRUCTIONS: - extract the fixed scripts from "_bugfix_wispactorcript.rar" to your Skyrim folder.- if you are using thefirewarriors "wispfix.esp", please delete it from your Skyrim DATA folder..- start Skyrim and load your problem savegame.- In third person, open the console and enter "player.addspell 8CC8C" [don't type the quotes]- Close the console- Open the console again and enter "player.removespell 8CC8C" [don't type the quotes]- Close the console.- FIXED  EDIT: as this is part of a common problem, I've set up a tutorial page here: TUTORIAL: REMOVING UNWANTED MAGIC EFFECTS FROM THE PLAYER Edited January 18, 2013 by steve40
