i want to start with a blank slate. i'm trying to debug fallout 4 and I get the feeling vortex isn't removing mods when i hit "uninstalled" or "remove." It would be very nice if someone could point me to a tutorial on how to completely erase mods previously imported from nexus?

Tutorial:

Click Purge mods. That leaves your game directory squeeky clean.

Look in your game directory and you will find no trace of a mod installed by Vortex.

Well qualification - that will do nothing to remove mods installed by another manager.

It is up to you to get rid of traces of NMM or MO.

What's that feeling based on?

When you say "imported from Nexus" do you mean mods you imported to Vortex from Nexus Mod Manager? In any event, uninstalling and/or purging will get rid of all mods installed/managed by Vortex.
