Vortex Deployement and FNIS

Hi everyone.

I recently decided that it was time for a fresh Skyrim play through and to my great surprise....VORTEX!!!! TA DUMMM! hehe.

I'm really in love with Vortex. I have used NMM and MO2 in the past which where great tools...but Vortex.....wow! Truly takes the cake.
Gota love and thank Gopher and everyone who helped make Nexus mods and Vortex what it is today. Skyrim modding has come a very long way.

Anyways enough praising, lol. Onto my question...

Every time I install a mod Vortex goes through an automatic "Deployement / Updating FNIS" phase.

Does FNIS really need to be ran for random armor mods, or anything that isn't changing animations? Or is FNIS doing more then just double checking anims?

Please forgive me if I am posting in the wrong place.

Thanks in advance!

Hey doereoh,

This is from a post by Tannin a couple of months ago

Right now, Vortex tries to avoid running fnis unnecessarily by calculating a hash over all files that match these regular expressions: /\\FNIS_.*_List\.txt$/, /\\FNIS.*Behavior\.txt$/, /\\PatchList\.txt$/, /\\skeleton.*\.hkx$/, /\\animations\\.*\.hkx$/ (all case insensitive), so if none of these have changed (and none have been added or removed) then FNIS isn't run.

About your second question, if you're installing multiple mods, I'd suggest turning off auto deployment until you're done installing them, and then turn on auto deploy and/or deploy the mods manually.

@doereoh

In regard to your first question, in Vortex settings you can turn off the FNIS slider switch. This may help your situation. You can then manually run FNIS from Vortex tools whenever you need to.

Thank you both very much.

Mine seems to run every single time. I was just worried that if I didn't let it run each time I may end up with CTDs like the ol' darker days of Oldrim!

Thanks for clarifying! :)

Missing a FINIS run does not - usually - lead to CTDs. It will probably always cause a T-Pose if an animation is new. At least those are a good reminder of what you have to do.

Side note: The FNIS extension seems to manage the FNIS data folder, created from a FNIS run. I always let it run at least once on a new profile.

If you run FNIS manually - make sure the correct FNIS data folder is selected and enabled. It will show the profile name it is for.

All of the FNIS generated animations wind up in that folder - and it has to be enabled.

Personally the way I use FNIS integration is, setup everything else, enable FNIS integration, manually deploy, disable FNIS integration again.

In case you've got a large number of mods I would also recommend to disable auto-deployment, since if you example install 10+ mods at once auto-deployment after installing every single mod is very inefficient.

I can't seem to find the options in the screenshot posted by Augusta Calidia.

And sorry about the random quote...I wanted to quote the part with the screenshot but it seems that I am not too forum savy!

But for now I'll do what Rattledagger suggested.

Thanks again everyone.

Vortex Dashboard > Settings > Interface

Also, you have a big FNIS button on the Dashboard that does the same thing as the FNIS slider.

The disadvantage of running FNIS directly is, the files are stored directly into data-directory and is outside Vortex control. This again means if you're using multiple profiles, and especially a profile you don't use FNIS on at all, it's a very good chance you'll get T-pose.

Now of course if you're never ever going to use multiple profiles, running FNIS directly is a quick and easy way of doing things.
