LHammonds Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Can ZBrush be used to make models for Oblivion?I have that and find it ok but haven't really messed around with it.Can it? Yes. Should you? Not likely. The models need to remain somewhat low-poly. When you take a low-poly model into ZBrush, you are normally trying to create a very high-resolution version for screenshots and creating high-quality normal maps for the low-poly model. So basically, you'd use ZBrush to create high-poly versions of your models in order to create a normal map and possibly textures as well. You wouldn't use the high-poly model in Oblivion. It is useful for organics. LHammonds
paintballmaster254 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Ya like ihateregistering... said, I also heard that exporting out of that program is a pain, and sometimes really messes up the UV's
ihateregisteringeverywhere Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 It doesn't "mess up" the UV's per say. They're perfect. Just generated weirdly. Forget trying to draw something in photoshop into an ZBrush UV template lol. It's like trying to read binary code.
Gamerbird Posted October 7, 2008 Author Posted October 7, 2008 So ZBrush isn't that good?Ok, I am getting some tutorials for Blender so I am going to try that.
paintballmaster254 Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Pretty much all the 3D graphics programs mention are great. Everyone has their own prefrences. Blender is probalby your best bet for what you want to do because most of the tutorials use it for Oblivion and the ES Wiki, plus it free. It also has all the plugins you'll need for exporting to Oblivion.
ihateregisteringeverywhere Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 I didn't say it's not good, it's frikin awesome actualy. Just no good for OB mods, unless you want to create super-awesome creatures and feel like creating two models (high and low poly) for the creature and then baking normal maps out of those high poly models. The effect would be spectacular at the very least.

ihateregisteringeverywhere Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 As I've said - Spectacular :D.
Gamerbird Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 That is awesome!!I might try using ZBrush to make some creatures then for some new mods and Blender for some weapons!
ghastley Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 The bottom line is that you'll need Blender or Max to create a compatible NIF but you may want to work in something else, and transfer the result to one of those for the final export. Zbrush is an option for creating the high-res version from which you create the normal map, but it can be done in other ways. It appears that Blender has more Oblivion-specific tutorial written for it than anything else, so that can be a factor when deciding which to use. I use Max (an old version) because I have it already and it's worn and comfortable now. I always need to use NifSkope to clean up the results, so I've learned enough of tha to get by.
