c0ax599
Hey man, good choice to check out Skyrim SE imho. I got like 1082 hours into Skyrim (from 2011-2013).. And like 500+ now in SE since Oct. '18.. I probably liked the old Skyrim better, but nothing wrong with SE. It got some definite advantages such as being 64bit. I'm not a heavy mod user like some. So I got a little list, of the things I like, and aren't really anything script heavy and such. I personally like the old Nexus Mod Manager, since it was what i was used to. It's still being developed by the "Community". v0.70.0 is the latest. there's also a few others. you can find 'em. I also use LOOT for mod sorting and it checks for some errors too) Here's my modlist. ================================ 0 0 Skyrim.esm 1 1 Update.esm 2 2 Dawnguard.esm 3 3 HearthFires.esm 4 4 Dragonborn.esm 5 5 Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch.esp 6 6 SkyUI_SE.esp 7 7 Hothtrooper44_ArmorCompilation.esp (Immersive Armors) 8 8 Hothtrooper44_Armor_Ecksstra.esp " " 9 9 SkyHUD.esp 10 a icepenguinworldmapclassic.esp 11 b coloredmapmarkers.esp 12 c Solitude Skyway SE.esp 15 f Carry Weight x2.esp 17 11 CBBE.esp (yes, I tried UNP when I first started SE, but I used CBBE for the bodies in Skyrim, so went back to it) 18 12 Brown Guard Armor.esp 19 13 RedNightingaleSet.esp 20 14 Realistic HaircolorsPale.esp (Pale Beauty and Realistic Hair Colors) 21 15 LunarForgeWeaponsSE.esp 22 16 playercelllocationinfo.esp (Where in Oblivion am I - SSE) 23 17 Skyrim Legendary Weathers.esp 24 18 wolfs_MissingVanillaAmuletsRings.esp (Extended Amulet and Ring Pack) 25 19 wolfs_MissingVanillaCirclets.esp (Extended Circlet Pack) 26 1a Alternate Start - Live Another Life.esp 27 1b Immersive Citizens - AI Overhaul.esp========================================I've removed a few personal use things (if you're wondering why a few #'s are missing). Also, a couple are not .esp's (that I would recommend) Those are:SKSE (it's a must imho! - SkyUI_SE requires it)SSE Engine Fixes (skse64 plugin)Better StarsMild Eyes - HumanEyes AO Clipping Fix When I first started playing SE, I also used this one for a player house - Whiterun Stable Tower SE.Real nice little starter house right by the stables outside Whiterun. Oh yea, also LeanWolfs Better-Shaped Weapons. I'm sure there's a lot of others, that will have some of their fav mods. Most of what I have are just for aesthetics, not new quests and stuff like that. enJoy man!c0AX599 Edited June 11, 2019 by c0ax599

DaedricBard
CBBE does seem to be getting more attention from modders these days, so there might be slightly more options for you going that route. However, I don't consider it a major decision because either one will yield good results and you can always change your mind later. SkyUI is a must, IMO. After using it for many months the default menus now seem exasperatingly clumsy by comparison. They were designed for game controllers, but if you're playing on a PC the mouse and keyboard are vastly superior ergonomic input devices. Look at some environmental enhancements to improve your immersive experience. I use Vivid Weather, which makes everything look better, not just rain and snow. Realistic Water 2 is another that's worth checking out. Another category to explore is follower mods. Inigo, Sofia, Recorder, Vilja, Caesia are my favorites because they have personalities and stories that make your adventures more enjoyable. I'd hold off on custom followers until later in the game, though. There are plenty of them in the vanilla game to keep you occupied until at least level 30. But if you find your early-game character too weak and you keep getting offed by wolves, go find Aela the Huntress when you get to Whiterun. But bear in mind that most non-quest mods can be added at any time during your gameplay, making it unnecessary to agonize over your modlist before jumping in.
