SignedName
ED-E is a robot, so him dying permanently in hardcore seems a little off, especially since to get him in the first place you have to repair him. But at the same time, making him essential feels like a bit of a cheat. Hence- how about a mod that lets you repair him after he's killed, restoring health based on your repair skill. Also, maybe have it so ED-E doesn't use stimpaks, but has to be healed via repairs instead (maybe using scrap electronics/scrap metal to repair him). dubiousintent
Have you seen the mod "First Aid NVSE - Heal and Use Items on NPCs"? "If they are a robot, you can't use chems, medicines, or food on them." -Dubious-
GamerRick
I read your post before I tried HardCore for the first time. I am well into my first HardCore playthrough now and have ED-E as my companion. He died a few times (once from Nightstalkers), and I just restarted and had him wait for me somewhere safe. I decided to do this instead of making him essential. However, I kept running into battles where I didn't have the foresight to know to make him wait for me. So, I gave up and made him essential. I looked at the scripts that control him. The OnDeath script does a lot of things to remove him as a companion, and it replaces him with a dead version that just opens the inventory when you activate it. I decided it was more trouble than it was worth to try and make it so you can resurrect him after all that. One thing I have been chewing over, is the idea of fortifying him somehow in a way that acts like a chem (lasts for a short while) but isn't a chem (since giving a chem to a robot makes not sense). For now though, he is essential, and I am focusing my energies on how to make the game more challenging.
