VGI
I know I know, this kind of question has been asked (and answered) countless times not just in this forum, but other forums as well. Should I finish FO3 first, and then play it again with FWE, or should I play it with FWE right away? I know that, as a new FO3 player, I've only been playing the game for 30 hours now, I will greatly change the gameplay if and when I use FWE and FWE-recommended mods. Not to mention the chance that I may not be able to make the game work with said mods right away...or at all. I have been having a good amount of fun playing vanilla, until I became discontented with the vanilla repair system and the dismemberment system. I have tried BA_Repair-GOTY and Sensible Dismemberment, but am currently being led towards playing it with Sensible Dismemberment only because in practice, BA_Repair makes repairing too easy, what with Tin Cans and Bent Tin Cans and all. The other thing to consider is, do I really want to spend twice the amount of time playing this "Windows 7 is not supported" game; first finishing it vanilla, and then with FWE and FWE-recommended mods? I have been blessed enough not to have to deal with guaranteed in-game freezing and CTDs, though I have encountered some in-game freezing and at least one bug concerning Dr. Lesko. If I install FWE and FWE-recommended mods, I might make it more unstable. So, I am awaiting your input, advice, suggestions, counsel, and arguments. Please do give. I hate to have started another dead thread. Edited September 4, 2012 by VGI
Osmanli
if you have played the game for 30 hours i would say you can give it a try. but on the other side, 30 hours are really not to much for fallout 3. FWE changes many aspects of the game. its more difficult and challenging. completly changes the repair, skill book, leveling and perk system. i would say that FWE is definitely "fitted" to the veteran fallout 3 players. i have played the game three times now, but FWE is really an other gameplay feeling far away from the vanilla fallout. so i would suggest you to play the vanilla main quest part and after this you can start a new FWE playthrough. otherwise it would be more fun and fascinating to play the game on FWE ( how the game should be imo ) version. i recommend to read the WHOLE mod description first before starting FWE. its up to you. Ah, thank you for the clear-cut reply. I may very well finish the main quest first before trying out FWE. I'll save the DLCs for later. I know FWE is huge, but I have read the entire description, as well as https://sites.google.com/site/fo3wanderersedition/ and from what I have read, I like! Except the motorcycle thing they added to it. It feels a bit "un-cooked". As for the mods I am currently using, I think I'll just stick with Sensible Dismemberment. Osmanli
yes, finish the main quest first before trying out FWE is a good choice. after this i would recommend to install FWE alone at first. as far as i know, FWE using his own dismembering method aimed for the different weapon types. and installing other mods after you have installed FWE. changes are one handed dont dismember or exloding limbs. only assault- sniper rifels and heavy weapons do that. exploding weapons are clear :P this rates are based on some perks you get and your small and heavy weapon stats. you can disable the motorcycle thing during installation, i dont use it too. its a little bit out of place for the fallout world ( like you mentioned ) too imo. furthermore i dont use the fast travel completey. it makes the game really more challenging. i would suggest you to install an backpack mod with an bedroll, you will need it many times in FWE. ( http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/15639 ) take a look to the Gopher`s Fallot 3 modding videos on the main fallout 3 nexus site. he will tell you that you cannot install every mod with FWE together. i recommend you to take the time and look all videos. and use the FO3Edit ( http://fallout3.nexusmods.com/mods/637 ) it will make some mods which are usable with FWE more compitable and will sort out some little conflicts. FO3Edit is essential for FWE imo. if you want i can give you some greate and useful mods links which you can use with FWE to make it more perfect. and they are many. so what else to tell. happy gaming mate. feel free to mail me. greetz. masternetra
Either way works. If you want the challenge start a new game with FWE. My main beef with FWE is that you can't adjust its setting while in vault101, which sucks sense you can't set drinks/water to heal like vanilla until you exit vault101 and get your FWE Control panel item. So if you start a new and go the normal vault101 start option keep in mind water will not heal you and may wish to use the gun early on to avoid as much damage as possible sense there are few stimpacks.
