Bundis Dito
I'm tinkering around in the GECK, trying to learn a few things. Right now, I'm playing with the wonderful Fallout Streetlights mod and attempting to add a few additional lights in and around Springville. Getting the lights to work properly is a topic I haven't yet conquered (need to examine the scripts they use), but I have a bigger question to ask. When placing a new object, is it possible to automatically "snap" that object to an existing object? I come from the land of 3D mechanical design, so I'm accustomed to what we call "constraints", where two object faces are stuck together. I'm hoping there's something similar, because the GECK render window isn't nearly as flexible as a 3D CAD program. I know about holding X, Y, or Z to move in a specific direction, but it's pretty tedious. I know I can dial in precision numbers in the Edit dialog box. I've read about this Shift + Q thing, but I can't figure out how it works. I sorta have an idea, but it's not clear. ---- Related question... when I load up the cell I'm working on, is there any way to hide everything BUT what I'm working on? I know I can use 1 to hide individual designs, but I wish there was a way to select the items I want to SHOW and hide everything else. Can I do that? Thanks in advance. BangARang2016
If you happen to be working with SketchUp for custom meshes, I have an importable component on the warehouse that will size your meshes just to the coordinate snap system in the GECK. **Be sure to set your snap settings in the geck to 32 or 64 units. I don't know exactly if this will help you in your instance since most don't use SketchUp software, but I hope it helps. https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/67e2d9fe-4869-46db-bd6d-987e9d355093/GamebryoCreation-Static-Tileset-Template
JW1
There's no way to snap objects together, but there is a 'snap to grid' option that is very useful for putting building kits together. You can alter the grid size by right-clicking on the void and selecting 'render window properties'. To hide objects, select them and press 1 followed by 1. The first '1' makes the object un-selectable, the second hides it. Press f5 to refresh the render window and un-hide everything.
Bundis Dito
So without a "snap-to" feature, that means all this stuff was placed BY HAND? Wow. Grid snap and the pivot-point snap in one of the Bethesda videos are nice, but still... wow. I'm trying to place light "emitter" objects over lampposts and it's brutally annoying trying to get the XYZ's correct. In 3D CAD, I would be able to select the light object's bottom side and make it "stick" to the top of the lamp object, Then I could adjust the offsets in any direction, but those two objects would remain mated. I'm now even further impressed with how much work goes into some of this stuff. The "1 to hide" is helpful, kinda. I mean, it's better than nothing. Well, this proves I was using the tool correctly, to the best of what it can do. I was afraid I missed some crucial step. So be it. Thanks for help, guys.
