Game crashing after removing Enboost

Recommended Posts

After spending quite some time unsuccessfully trying to get the injector version of Enboost working, I gave up and installed the wrapper version instead just to see if it even wielded any noticeable benefits.

In a move of dumbassery, I left the wrapper version of Enboost in my FNV root directory allowing it to run every time I booted up the game.

Since then, I haven't actually played FNV at all or progressed whatsoever, I've just been on a grind tweaking/ testing various mods (some of which are my own creation) which took quite some time. Keep in mind that during this time I only used "dummy saves" on my character to troubleshoot said mods in game, saves I had no intention of using for actual game play.

After completing my work I loaded up the modified versions of my mods + a few new ones and my game proved perfectly stable with satisfactory results. I removed Enboost and tried to resume where I was at on my character now low and behold- my game is entirely F*CKED after removing Enboost. It now exhibits classic symptoms of "bloat" and save file corruption to include crashing upon fast travel as well as a one time occurrence of the "out of memory" crash. Now whenever I fast travel anywhere the loading screen crashes with one exception where the game loaded incompletely and only displayed the ground with a number of tree LOD's present.

Oddly enough, these problems disappear whenever I re-install the wrapper version of Enboost. But I can't use the wrapper version with VorpX (which I'm not playing without) and the god forsaken injector version does jack s#*! for windows 10. So using Enboost is not a solution for me.

A few notes:

I'm sitting at around 65 plugins

I did NOT have these issues prior to using Enboost

I have already tried removing any textures that could contribute to low memory

I have already verified the integrity of a number of "missing" files through steam.

These problems occur on ANY previous saves. Though I haven't yet tested this on a new game, I expect the results to remain the same. (if my saves were corrupted, they wouldn't be working with Enboost enabled).

Can anyone tell me what the hell is going on here?

3D VR is not something that FNV was designed for, and the regular contributors have not reported any experience with it in the forums. If the following doesn't help, you need to check with the VorpX people.

The wrapper version of ENB installed a "D3D9.dll" file in the game folder ("steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas"). Make sure you have removed that as it is likely to be conflicting with your VorpX. (That is not a "true" DirectX9 file; it contains the ENB functions and (presumably) passes along normal DirectX calls to the system. The system looks first in the game folder for files and stop looking as soon as it finds a match.)

ENB is a "post processor", which means it "does it's thing" between the video card and the display. It should not be affecting your save game files, but apparently from your description it demonstrably is. I would lay that to any ENB specific mods or "pre-sets" you may have installed.

ENBoost is a memory management tool that simply allocates more of "system RAM" to the video pipeline. It is a separate tool and doesn't have either a "wrapper" or "injector" version. It is the "ENBHost.exe" file and can be left (or re-installed separately) after uninstalling either of the other versions of ENB proper. I would be really surprised if it is causing your problem.

Note that removing ANY mods is not recommended as they may leave "crumbs" behind in the save game files and cause problems when removed. At the very least follow the 'Clean Saves' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article.

I would be interested in hearing how you eventually resolve this for the benefit of the next person with a similar issue.

It sounds like something is still using a lot of memory, I have so much stuff installed that I have to use ENBoost, if I remove it I get exactly what you describe.

I agree- it seems to be an issue with the memory limitations of the 32bit framework. I'll need to do some trouble shooting on my own to see where I can decrease my memory load (of note, I'd doubled the amount of music I had for a radio mod amounting to 1.07GB) but regardless, a clean install of new vegas ABSENT of any enb-related files seemed to do the trick (no longer crashing on my saves). It's a shame that Borris has given up on enb compatibility for windows 10.

As always, thank you both for the help
