Cerwiden's Development Path, Part 3

  1. 1. With v1.6 and Ceri's ability to recognize (and have minor party banter with) other followers, if she was to have more meaningful interaction with another follower in the future, who would that follower be?

    • A vanilla Skyrim follower (post who you'd like)
    • Vilja, by Emma
    • Atvir Dres, by JanusForbeare
    • A companion from another mod (post the companion and mod)
    • I don't care about NPC interaction with Ceri
  2. 2. Should Ceri's questline (why she's in Skyrim) be dependent on the player's progress on Skyrim's main quest? (e.g., for those of you who've earned friendship with Ceri, you may notice her responses vary slightly depending on your MQ progress)

    • Yes, doing tie-in references to Skyrim's MQ adds to the lore and brings consistency.
    • No, the Skyrim MQ sucked eggs, stay away from it.
    • Doesn't matter to me one way or the other.

EDIT: I'm not trying to sway the poll, but in the interest of not raising people's hopes too high, it's worth mentioning that Skyrim Vilja is (last time I checked) in an early developmental stage, and I haven't seen any recent updates nor heard any new news about her progress in several months. Since 95% of the information about her on the Nexus came from me (apparently Emma is aware that she has no need to promote her work ;)), it might be worth double-checking with Emma, to make sure that the mod is still on track and in development.

Vilja in Skyrim and Vilja and Ceri roaming Skyrim.

No, the project isn't dead at all, the release is scheduled to the end of this month (although I've started to think that around October 7 might be more likely). The only reason that there hasn't been much talk of her is that I'm too busy working on her to spend that much time in forums. But, I promise, she is being sea-sick on the ship to Skyrim right now, and in the luggage she has four questlines that should keep you busy for quite some time, more than 4000 voice entries, extensive backgroundstory, lots of bonus-npcs and interaction with some of the vanilla-followers included. And a few surprises, of course, that I won't mention just yet ;).

I do hope that we can get together and add interaction between our companions, all of us. I would love to see that happen, in Oblivion it was only Companion Fergus that really interacted with Vilja. :)

P S I promise that as soon as I get a chance I will try out Atvir a little better. I've simply been so busy working on Vilja that all my time has went into that rather than playing. It was only last week that I tried out Ceri, too.

I would vote for Serana and/or Aela

Aela would be nice

With regards to Aela, for what it's worth, I've been working on a fairly advanced, story-driven mod to expand Aela as a follower, and I've just begun working with a voice actress who will be re-voicing the existing dialogue and voicing all the new lines that I'm writing. So while there certainly might be dialogue lines you could re-use from the existing voice files, if you're interested in doing some sort of collaborative banter between our projects then I'd be happy to participate. Although realistically it might be a few months before I'm ready for that, as my VA and I want to focus first on getting the core lines of the mod voiced.

I think taking the vanilla followers and spicing them up would be great. I used to run with Marcurio all the time, and it would be interesting to have some back and forth with him. Thanks for all the hard work! it really is a pleasure to have her along.

Marcurio, I KNEW there was another priest follower, but i couldn't remember the name. That'd make for some interesting theological comparisons. Of course I still think Collete would be more entertaining.

I can't wait! :) And I thought Ceri having a few hundred lines was a lot. :)

Can you guess which companion mod I voted for? :whistling:

I've very much been meaning to try out your mod but Ceri's updates have been keeping me busy. I've heard some wonderful things about what you've done with Atvir, which is why I added him to the potential 'interaction' list. :)

I just looked up your mod after seeing your post, and it looks great! I'll add it to my mods-to-play list. :)

Generally speaking, what I've got with Ceri in v1.6 is a 'basic' ability for her recognize other followers. For about 70% of the 'vanilla' followers, including Aela, she'll recognize by name (but I've not yet included banter for Aela yet), and she'll have a few banter lines with maybe 3-4 followers. Ceri will also recognize 'mod' followers generically; I'm still working on building the 'bridge' so to speak where she'll recognize mod followers individually. One of my goals with Ceri is to be able to have her interact in a more meaningful way with the player's other followers beyond just random banter lines and basic scenes. Not that I'm saying that the followers should run off and 'quest' on their own per se, but for them to be more 'situation aware' and have corresponding scene dialogue, banter, and perhaps even be able to comment/interact on one another's goals, aspirations, etc. :)

I would love to see a tie in with Vilja, but from what I can tell, Emma has not ported her into Skyrim yet. Can anyone tell me otherwise?

If it can't be Vilja, than I would say maybe Uthgerd or one of the female Housecarls.

Glad to hear it! I certainly didn't mean to imply that the project was dead, just that I hadn't seen any recent news about it on the Nexus or on the forums on your own website. And I definitely understand the difficulty in striking a balance between modding and promoting/discussing your WIPs; I've been pretty quiet lately for the same reason.

October 7th is not far away at all! I can't wait to see what you've done with her. The first major update for AD will be coming out around the end of the year, at which point I'll be starting to look into companion interactions. DreamKingMods, Mujuro (obviously :) ), and a few other companion modders have expressed similar intentions; at some point we should all find some time to have a quick chat about compatibility.
