wfandrews
I recently started a new game, installed all my mods, corrected load order after running LOOT, ran SSEEdit to make sure there were no obvious conflicts, created a bash patch, reset archive invalidation and started the game with skse64, got ctd before I even got to the start menu. In order for you to understand precisely what happened I will have to explain how I load a new modded game, so please bear with me. I started with a completely vanilla game, went through the intro, when I emerged from the cave I made four saves. I renamed those saves and stored them in SSE Saves folder. Whenever I start a new character, and I am one of those people who do so frequently, I use one of those saves to build on. I download my mods five at a time and play the game usually up to the place where Hadvar says the Bleak Falls Barrow giving him chills dialogue, then quit, add five more mods, do the same. This means that when I had installed all the mods I was going to use for this profile the game started and ran with no problem. The upshot is that after creating a bash patch I would have to try launching the game at least 3 times, usually more, getting constant ctds' before I got to the start menu and could load the game. After I got the game loaded I could play with no problem. If I disabled the bash patch the game would launch without a problem. I got tired of fighting with the damned game just to launch it and decided I would do without a bash patch and just use a merged patch, same problem. I have been playing oldrim since 2011 and sse since it came out and have never encountered a problem like this. With a bash patch or merged patch installed, after finally getting to the start menu the game runs smooth as silk, I have played over ten hours without a problem. What worries me is that there may be a conflict that does not show up until I enter a certain cell or get a certain quest. Then again it may not be a sse problem at all but may be a computer problem. I have Widows10 Home and just recently installed the 1903 version. If anyone has any idea as to how to attempt to find out what my problem is I would be grateful. Found the problem, it was YOT Your Own Thoughts. I still do not know why, when those esp were merged they caused my game to ctd when trying to load. Even though I could eventually play the game if I kept trying. I thought of this mod as I had not played with it before and it had 4 esp that were patches and Wrye Bash merged all of them. wfandrews
You can disregard that "found the problem" statement. After I uninstalled YOT, ran LOOT, created a bash patch, and then launched the game it went straight to the start menu. I assumed that the problem was solved, silly me, teach me to assume. The next time I tried to load the game I was right back where I started. So, does anyone have the faintest idea why, when I play with a bashed or merged patch it takes me three or more ctd usually before I finally get to the start menu. After I can finally start the game it plays flawlessly. I start the game from a skse64 shortcut on my desktop.
c0ax599
Any particular reason you need a "bashed patch? Personally, I got WRYE installed in case I ever need it. But I've never made a bash patch. I only run about 50 mods, so i don't see the need. Play without that unless you one of those 255+ mod runners ;)
wfandrews
Thanks for your reply. I have been doing exactly as you suggested. Although I feel a bashed patch is a good idea i do not believe it is essential for a moderately modded game. I usually play with about 110 mods so I certainly do not need the space and if you are careful with your load order ie run LOOT and then adjust your load order, you will have no problems. I would still like to know what is causing this. just out of curiosity.
wfandrews
"Draugr Patrols" is causing the problem.
