dubiousintent
That's a Windows issue. Something has changed (such as a Windows Update). Try recreating the shortcut or launching FOMM from where it is installed, and if the problem continues, check the Windows Eventlog under "Applications" for errors occurring at that time. If any error messages pop on screen, note the text or make a screenshot. -Dubious-
eightballyuri
creating a new shortcut did not work. the original path was to pro files 86. then it would work in windows c. now its stopped there to. and putting it back in files 86 does not help. dubiousintent
That suggests the problem is actually with the original install location. FOMM is a 32-bit program, which is why it was installed (by default) into "C:\Program Files(x86)". (64-bit programs by default are installed into "C:\Program Files" instead.) But that is a "system protected folder tree" and is often affected by Windows updates to prevent malware in those locations. Try uninstalling FOMM from that location, and instead "custom install" it somewhere else, such as under your own "Apps" or "Games" folder. See "Installing Games on Windows Vista+" regarding how to set permissions on such a folder if you haven't created one before. -Dubious-
eightballyuri
how would i go about installing fomm in another folder?
dubiousintent
I know FOMM will let you chose the location, because I did. If you already have FOMM installed, you won't be given the "custom" option. (At least mine didn't when I checked it just now.) You will have to uninstall it first. Most "installers" have an option on the screen when they tell you where they are going to install the application, called "custom install" (or similar). (This is often on the second or third screen, looking similar to below.) http://kb.mozillazine.org/images/Fx2SetupType3.png If you select that "custom" option, they will let you "browse" / navigate to a location on your disk drive. Pick a "parent folder" and it will install the application to it's own folder under that "parent". Usually they have already included the app's folder name, but if not, you may need to use the "create folder" option to manually create one and then select it as the "parent". Double-check the path it shows where the files will be placed (typically a line at the top or bottom of the screen, such as "destination directory" in the image below) before you let it "install" or tell it "Okay" / "Next". http://parallel.vub.ac.be/education/pc/Images/03_custom.JPG Occasionally you will find an installer which doesn't give you that option. They usually don't show you where the application is going to be placed either. In those instances they are going to be placed in one of the default "C:\Program Files" folders (based upon "bitness: 32 or 64"). I always look for and choose "custom install" because it will show you where it would normally place the files (and which ones) if you accepted their default. (Beats guessing.) -Dubious-
M48A5
To reinforce what dubiousintent posted, when I installed FOMM I chose the custom install and where it asked for the location I simply used C: and FOMM was installed completely outside any and all Windows User Account Control. You should also use this option when installing the game, or use the "My Games" folder. In case you are confused by the images, dubious is using them only as an illustration so show what you should be looking for during installing FOMM. Be sure you get the newest FOMM https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/54991
