Pink Khajits! Zoinks!

Hey everyone (anyone?),

I uploaded four mods yesterday, and when I started Oblivion I saw that all the MALE Khajits had turned PINK. More specifically: The heads, feet and hands appeared with the normal skin and fur, but the legs, body and arms were a pink. I'm not sure my terms here are correct, but I believe what I am seeing is the meshes (the shape of the body) are present but the texture (the actual appearance) is gone. I have no idea how this happened, so lemme try to give you my observations, and hopefully we can get this fixed.

The mods I downloaded are:

Better potion bottles reduced: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=14347

Reduced Detect Life: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2447

Retextured Orcs Pack: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4397

Bruma Guild Rebuild: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4040

Only the Bruma Guild and Reduced Detect Life have .esp files I can turn on or off from my OBMM, and when I unclick them, the pink panther problem still remains... so my guess is it is NOT them.

The Orcs and Potions don't have anything to do with the Khajits, and I've verified I have everything in the correct oblivion/data files. Or at least I am very sure I do... really.

Now the Orcs and Potions require no .esp file, so I am not sure how to deactiveate them unless I delete all those files that came with the mods. I suppose that is my next step, but I thought I'd ask the experts here to see if they can provide some insight. I also read all the posts on all four mods forums, and there was no one else that had this similar issue. Clearly, its unique to somethign I have done, my system, or whatever. (Whatever is a nice way to say I screwed something up.)

Understand, It isn't me that is upset about the pink cats. Its the male Khajits. They are extremely upset... with ME... and do NOT want to be pink. The ladies are already talking and giggling about it, and the men are starting to give me some really narrow eyed (get it?) looks. If anyone can help, lemme know... or if there are other details I should look for and report back, lemme know as well.

Thanks!

What you can check for is the original khajit folders in your textures (which should be under characters) if you have anything in a khajit folder, what you can do is move them to a temporary location and see if that solves it without messing anything else up.

Another thing you can do is unpack your BSA - textures - and unpack the khajit folder and drop it into your characters folder and it will overwrite for the most part.

Finally if none of that works, I would disable mods until you find the culprit, because it has to be an .esp file if there is a change in the texture path.

Missing texture for body is basically impossible because all vanilla textures are stuffed into .bsa file. So even if you didn't install texture for your chosen body replacer correctly, you won't see purple body(instead, you will see messed up body). I think Archive Invalidation somehow went wrong. You have some retexture pack, and it may need Archive Invalidation if the game cannot do it correctly. And? It's not so smart. When I did Archive invalidation for QTP3R, I could see purple claws, and missing wolves. I had to edit ArchiveInvalidation.txt manually to solve it.

Thanks for the fast responses.

Lfact,

The Orc Pack directed me to update my archive invalidation with:

textures/characters/orc/Female/footfemale.dds

textures/characters/orc/Female/handfemale.dds

textures/characters/orc/Female/legfemale.dds

textures/characters/orc/Female/upperbodyfemale.dds

textures/characters/orc/male/footmale.dds

textures/characters/orc/male/handmale.dds

textures/characters/orc/male/legmale.dds

textures/characters/orc/male/upperbodymale.dds

textures/characters/orc/earsorc.dds

textures/characters/orc/headorc.dds

So, I copied and pasted this info into it exactly like this. The orcs show up fine. The other info in my archive invalidation is:

Textures/Armor/ImperialWatch/M/Gauntlet.dds

Textures/Creatures/Zombie/ZombieHair.dds

Textures/Dungeons/AyleidRuins/CPRailing01.dds

Textures/Plants/MiscMoth01.dds

Textures/Weapons/SilverShortSword.dds

I'll be honest, I have no idea what the AI file is, what it is for or what it does. I have seen a mod that invalidates this file (the archive invalidation invalidator) but don't understand what it is for or what it does (or rather stops the AI from doing) so I havent downloaded it either. I think one of the problems may lie around the AI file... but because I dont know anything about it, I cant be sure. I suppose I can remove the orc info from it and see what happens before I remove the files from the data folders. Might be safer.

Cynster,

My khajit folders only contain a female folder, which I believe is tied to the exnem body replacer... and it should be there. There is no male folder. I may try to get those original BSA textures and put them into the khajit folder like you say... maybe the game thinks it needs to find some new khajit textures there for some reason and because they aren't there, they don't show. Good idea.

Again, thanks, and I'll try some of these ideas out and see what's up. If anyone can explain AI in terms my 9 year old can understand, so then she can explain it all to me, that would be great.... lol.

Later all!

Archive Invalidation is not so smart. Seems it tries to invalidate every files having same strings in their filenames. For me, I invalidated the archive for QTP3R(redimized+reduced), I got invisible wolves just because: QTP3 has wolf.dds(and wolf_n.dds) for Hircine's statue, and the game tried to invalidate all wolf textures.

Actually, the game will invalidate textures automatically if replacer textures are newer than archived textures(unless you changed something in Oblivion.ini). If you have to invalidate archives, use redirection or alteration method instead.

  • 4 weeks later...

I have a similar problem. I'm running Robert's Male Body and the combination Exem's Eyecandy > HGEC Fighter D/Extra Large lower body > High Rez pack, with Ren's mystic elves, NEC's mystic and dark elves, Lineage 2 elves, and Lattamer (basically, everything that appeared in the high rez pack I downloaded).

Now, the females, the females look great, very sexy, the custom nipples look wonderful. But the males... the males are another story.

Specifically, it's a story about seemingly scrambled skin textures. All males but Ren's elves (and I think a few of the others, I'll have to test) end up with skin textures that just don't make no sense. The Khajit, for example, end up as you described: Fast swathes of pink flesh along one arm, no sense to the patterns, it's ugly. Same thing with the Argonians. The other races it's slightly less noticeable, as they don't have big patterns like Khajit and Argonians.

One more thing: I've turned off ALL mods at one point and the skin textures were still messed up hopelessly. Whatever's causing this problem isn't in a .esp file.

Also, I tried putting the ArchiveInvalidation.txt from the Robert's Male folder into Bethesda\Oblivion (I didn't have a copy of my own yet) and it made all male's torsos invisible.

Do not necropost or hijack the thread. Anyway, I do not recommend doing Archive Invalidation unless it needed. the game will read newer textures/meshes automatically when bInvalidateOlderFiles in Oblivion.ini is set to 1. Well, did you install all meshes and textures correctly? Messed texture on body replacer means you didn't install texture for the body replacer, or the game does not read newer texture properly.

Sorry, figured less than thirty days ago was fine, and since it was the same problem...

Anyways, I'll try downloading and re-installing Robert's Male. Maybe something got overwritten or something at some point.
