ginnyfizz
OK so my desktop PC has been misbehaving, booting and then freezing. My PC guy suspects HDD on the fritz and so do I. We usually manage to recover my data, hehe. So what are your recommendations for a replacement? I need a large, 2TB capacity that is fast, like 7200rpm for preference. Have a huge case, AMD setup with Phenom II X6, ATI 6970 card, Asus Crosshair IV Formula Mobo.
hoofhearted4
just looking at Newegg here are three: Samsung Spinpoint F3 - proven. by far the most reviews. but also only SATA 3.0gb/s and i dont think they run at 7200RPM, but im not sure. Seagate Barracuda - i throw this one out here because its cheap. but has the capacity, speed, and cache of a top notch drive. however, lower amount of reviews that end up in 3 eggs. so its probably a cheap price for a reason. Western Digital Caviar Black - Higher in price, but the one i would probably get myself (in fact i plan on the 1TB version for my desktop when the time comes) also got the 7200RPM and 64mb cache (idk how much cache matters, but its got it lol) and WD Caviar Black have a good reputation both for speed and reliability. Erik005
For a main mechanical drive the Western Digital Caviar Black simply has no equal.

Thor.
I recommend ssd hybrids, faster then rapter drives, 10% slower then ssd, but still mechanical.. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6280178&CatId=2682
