C6Silver
If one is installing Skyrim for the first time, what mods are suggested to be installed right away (as in before you even start to play)? Thanks.
sinnerman69
SkyUI -- 18,118 endorsement it adds a in game menu that Bethesda should of done from the beginning, thank goodness for modders  Stay away from mods that haven't been updated in 15months or no responses in the comment area from the creator of it in a while!.. Cthuloot
SkyUI for sure. Makes the UI feel like it was intended for a PC and not a console. Categorized Favorites Menu as well, but be weary about that one. It looks like the author has kind of abandoned it, so if you don't know how to mess around with configs you could have a rough go of getting it to work right. I spent probably 2 hours to get mine to look and work just right so you've been warned there. A Quality World map is also nice. So is the Thinner Compass mod. Out of the technical side a few mods I use almost always are Immersive Armors, Mastery of Magicka, Lost Art of Blacksmithing, ISHS Souls to Perks (It adds a Dragon Stone stone to the Guardian Stone which you can use to trade dragon souls for perk points. The default exchange rate it 10:1 butyou can make it so it costs less souls. I personally have it set to 1, because dragons seem to be kind of rare for some reason... So far I'm up to level 25 and have only had 5 random encounters with them). JaySuS Swords is also really nice, however the loading menu sometimes gives you text refering to a sword but doesn't tell you what sword it is! It also depends on what you'll be playing. I use Spell Sneak Attack if I'm going to play a mage class for example, and Khajiit Speak when I play as Khajiits (Almost always now). There's also a mod I enjoy an keep all the time called Max Runes (I think) which increases your max number of place-able runes from one to 2, 4, 8, or 16. You can decide if you want that or not, I like having it around simply because it lets me be a little more tacticle with run placements. As an archer I use an animation fix for running and Proper Length arrows. Being an archer also encouraged me to pick up a realistic force mod that stops people from becoming airborne from giant attacks as well as arrow kills. It also increases your 'lift' power when moving corpses. ASIS and PISE are usually recommended if you're looking for a challenge, however I had some major headaches with trying to get either one to work. Not everybody has these problems though. I'm not sure what caused mine :wallbash: Eventually after much heartache and woe, I got ASIS working. I also use a lighting mod called Realistic Lighting, which you can tweak a lot. It makes nights and dungeons a lot darker and doesn't impact my FPS. As a result of darker nights I've picked up the Lanterns of Skyrim - All in One mod as well as Wearable Lanterns and a few add-ons for that one. Hope that gives you some ideas! When I'm looking for mods I usually play a little until I find something that bothers me, then put a keyword or two into the search bar and just open up new tabs for any mods that sound interesting. As sinnerman said though, make sure they are current, or you could have problems. This isn't ALWAYS the case, especially if you know a little bit about modding. I've been able to get 'dead' mods to work, but sometimes it just isn't possible or more trouble than it's worth. Also! SKSE. You'll need that for a few of the mods I mentioned! Hope it helps! Rabbit1251
It is best to play the game close to vanilla for starters. Cosmetic mods like new bodies, HD graphics, clothes and retextures are fine. When things start to get a little boring add the game changer mods a little at a time to keep things going. New abilities, more enemies, tougher monsters, new weapons and armour can keep the game fresh for lots longer. If you add everything all at once the game will get stagnant quicker and leave you with nothing to fall back on. Just my opinion, mind you. Rabbit While this is true, installing some mods after playing for a bit could be bad for your character. Mastery of Magicka for instance. I've heard people say they lose their magic perks after installing. I don't have any personal experience with that, because whenever I add most re0balance mods I start a new game. I think my best advice would be somewhere between what Rabbit and I said. play a fresh or vanilla game to look for things you want to fix/change first, then once you've got some ideas, get the mods, start a new game and play with them for a little. Also, don't try to mod other mods with mods. If you don't like the way a certain perk overhaul works, see if you can customize it with configs somehow, instead of installing another mod over it.
