LE Alternative Vampire Lord

Like someone else in this forum pointed out, when Harkon first showed the Vampire Lord Form, my first thought was: "Yeah, right. See you in a few weeks with back-up. Isran says hi!"

Thats how awful the vanilla form is, all those cool powers, and I still hardly use it except for transportation with a flying mod.

 

I keep hoping to see something better each day when I look at what new mods have been added.

Nothing so far.

 

If we are to go the big and ugly route (not really my preferance, but I'll take anything at this point) As at least 5 or 6 have suggested, at least make the wings believable, as in look like they could hold a creature that size up. A form more like Marcus from The Underworld Movies.

 

I keep hoping to see something more like a Sucubus. A form where I my first reaction is "Hell Ya" not "Hell No".

A Chingari and Ismelda Demon Race http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/14528 is the best example I can point to right away.

Both the male and female look powerful and fierce without being repulsive.

 

I can't imagine that nobody is working on this. I suspect that a modder capable of getting a model with the wings actually working won't tell until they're done.

But i can hope.

It is pretty clear that the wings are only used to generate forward momentum. The glowing red at your feet is obviously the magic that is allowing you to hover, not the wings.

I think the problem is the body shape, not really the texture (necessarily). I'm with the OP, I'd really prefer a vampire lord form I'd want to have, not something that makes me want to be human again after being a vanilla vampire for some 40 levels. No one asked my opinion but I'll give it anyway: something pale and delicate would be a lot cooler to me. Something that appeals to the aristocratic spellcaster, not the limb-tearing brute. Limb-tearers already get werewolves.

 

I think Bethesda kinda fell down on the "Vampires = cold, intellectual, culture / Werewolves = hot, emotional, primal" dichotomy. Vampire lord form makes being a werewolf look more appealing :/

I actually use both of those. I'm still curious as to the reason only retextures are available. But I suppose in the grand scheme of things Dawnguard hasn't really been out that long.

The flying mod is great, in fact that is what I was refering to in OP. I often fly from place to place, but for anything other than travel I go back to human form.

I like killing vampires. I don't like playing them. Vampires are an abomination in the sight of the Divines. The very idea of killing thinking feeling humans just so you can selfishly prolong your own perverted life. Disgusting. So when I first saw the vampire lord form, I was sort of like, "Why?" I have no desire to be a really really ugly monster. I think most people like to look nice rather than really really ugly and repulsive. A lot of vampires in stories like to dress nice and look nice.

 

I thought the plot line of Dawnguard was sort of odd. I played along with it and helped Serena out, but I could have gone the other way. A member of an order of vampire hunters like the Dawnguard would have been more likely to kill Serena and steal her elder scroll without even giving her a chance to talk. (Maybe she stared into my eyes and mesmerized me, and that is why I helped her.)

 

The writers of the game sort of cheated a bit. Gamers wanted to get their money's worth, and so a lot of them probably went along with Serena rather than just quitting the quest then and there and giving up on Dawnguard. They made Serena female instead of male. They made her pretty, and made her look weak and helpless when she tumbled out of her crypt. The classic damsel in distress sort of thing. If instead of Serena, there had been a vampire lord, few people would have hesitated to kill the nasty thing as quickly as possible.

Throughout most all Vampire literature and film, an attractive, cultured, seductive appearance hides an evil reality. From that standpoint, the hideous Vampire Lord form makes perfect sense, the player doesn't have to remain in that form at all times, just when they wish to use the power. I just don't like it. While it makes perfect sense from a lore and gameplay perspective, I would prefer something a little less repulsive.

Serana's story does allow for this, considering Harkon and her mother's treatment of her and the ritual that made her into a Daughter of Coldharbor, she is definately cast as a victim.

In any event, it's a game that we are permited to modify, so if someone with the skill to do so wishes to make the Vampire Lord more visualy attractive to play, thank the Nine. I look forward to enjoying their work.

These (Alduin's wings( http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/15692 )) if made a bit larger and rotated down a few degrees more towards the ground would be great on a Vampire Lord.

I'm bumping this, cause I whole-heartedly agree.

I think they did a better job on those darn Gargoyle Goliath's then on the vampire lords... I think turning into a gargoyle goliath instead of the crappy-looking vampire lord would be awesome, and I hate how disgusting the female form looks >_>

I've seen a few attempts to do this, that are mashups of other mods, probably without benefit of permissions, so we won't see them here.

But the point is a method to keep your characters features but gain the wings and powers has been found.
