Added a poll to have an idea of what would be the most wanted business and features, most of the ideas listed are from people in this thread. I would like to do between 10-15 businesses and implement 5 features for each. If my current project Jobs of Skyrim goes well enough, I might be able to start working on this by the end of the year. I could start earlier but i don't want to give up on some stuff that I want to add in my current project so this will have to wait.

Shepherding/Mobile Grazing could be a bit involved, but would open up some new options.

Sheep/Goats/Alpine Cows. Firstly, new models and passives. Secondly, ordering NPC's (hired hands, dogs).

As for what value, sell off animals for food, hides/wool for clothing, potential wilderness combat events - bandits, and giants 'taking tribute', dragons, bears, and wolves etc stealing animals in the night, lost animals, 'peter and the werewolf' situations (although if you are a werewolf, and of an evil nature, use the story to gain access to a town normally locked tight at night), trespassing farmers land/overgrazing/eating his crops get angry and try to lynch you or commision guards to get you off his land.

To force you to move on, you will find that profit from selling lamb/beef/wool to a town will gradually begin to slow down, while continued harvesting of land will result in increased bounty, while some Jarls (depending on your favour with them) will want to kick you out of their lands.

Meanwhile you must try and choose the best pastures for your flock/herds to stop plague/disease/famine wiping them out.

Actually that sounds more like a mod in and of itself.

Just wanted to say that I love the idea. I haven't had a chance to play Katixas Ciderhouse Restaurant (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16106) but it sounded similar and very appealing, too.

I haven't either to be honest but let say that I haven't tried many mods yet :P. I might go try it though to see if It can give me some inspiration.

Looks like people are very interested in seeing a caravan, inns and smuggling ring, I wish I could have included more businesses choices in the original post, but pools are limited unfortunately,

Permanency,Competition,Special jobs and Expenses seems to be the most popular features wanted. Permanency might be the harder one to do without conflicting with mods but hopefully I can find a way to include it.

I started reworking on my job mod again so hopefully this next project can be started soon after I am done.

Hey.

Great ideas so far from everyone but i think for this mod to work best (at least when it comes to selling merch.) there should be a patch for the mod 'Economics of Skyrim' by Thomas Kaira. It overhauls Skyrim's economy into a region-based system, with goods and prices dependent on where you are shopping, which would work perfectly when running a business as a trader/blacksmith/etc. Travelling across the country sourcing cheap materials to work and sell off for a tidy profit.

I would love to see gambling in Skyrim, i'm not sure if its relevant to what your trying to achieve or not, running a fight club, pit wolf ring or something?

Aside form that the idea of smuggling and shipping goods is appealing.

-maybe sometimes involving slave trade with the Aldmeri dominion.. (choose involvement or not?)

Also, is there any way to count up the amount of logs you cut at a lumber mill? Getting paid per day depending on how many logs you cut, or how long you spent turning the grain mill.

How about becoming a town guard or a Jarl's steward? ..hmm maybe..

I voted for brewery, just cause idk. But I was thinking a feature these could have, or at least I would think they are cool is specific quests for each business type.

so..

The inn- some guy wont leave a room blaa blaa.

Farm - bandits are trying to hit you up for crops

Alchemy shop - a group of heros need you to supply them with potions for free, help or no? the results who knows

Caravan- a rival caravan is in the need of help.

idk maybe these were all going to be basic features anyway, Job missions. just my two cents.

So specific events pretty much? It is a really nice idea. Out of my skills atm but I intend to take a lot of time on the first business so it will be plenty of time to try to learn.

I am thinking that the features that I will try to implements are those:

Shipping system

permanency

employees

special jobs

expenses

marketing

Permanency might be the harder to implement but is one of the most popular choices in the pool so I will give it a big try, probably going to start with something small like catalogs in some houses and maybe have specific npcs that will end up having a product of your business for each jobs done.

Business that had the most votes and will probably be done:

Smugglin ring

inn

caravan

brewery

alchemy shop

The forge will be the one that I release as a demo so it will probably the business that I will test the features on.

Well I submit the idea the idea that ork already knows about, the Shiping import/ export business. Along the lines of Shatter-Shield and East Empire Company. Like I originally said here

"The name speaks for itself. I wonder...would someone consider looking into owning your own Shiping Business? give the East Empire Company and Clan Shatter-Shield a run for their money! That would bea fantastic Gold sink/ Merchant diversion...hiring mercs to guard your ships and maintain their salaries, wages for the crews of of your ships, upkeep costs for repairs and such, buying more ships for your fleet. Trade tariffs and taxes from the Exports and Imports you bring into Skyrim from the other Provinces/ Nations. Establish a Main Office (where you would gain ownership) and use it as the main front for distributeing the cargo you import as well as the main focus of handleing business, where you can even hire on employee's to assist you in manageing your assests as your business expands to cover more and more resources. Replace ships and crew that are lost from Pirates or storms. I understand that this is anything but a simple request, but something I feel would be pretty darn awsome and wonder if someone would, at the very least look into the possability/ plauseability of such a thing. It does not have to be nearly as complex as it is described, would be nice obviously but I understand Skyrim can be a cruel mistress lol."

Which is the important part of the post that i originally submitted.

Also not to be a douche or anything, but anyone looking for a brewery, Katixa's already done one, it's on their page.

Might I add, Katixa's Ciderhouse is amazeing, I recommend everyone check it out. you have huge profits, with very exspensive upgrades for it. it also involves Export, Taverns and cities from across Tamriel request massive orders of your Cider, hundreds of bottles at a time.

How does it go as far as a business? I did read the description but haven't tried it, doesn't see like there is any employees, customers or expenses other than the one of doing your beer, so I wouldn't call it a business, unless you have extra information about the mod that makes it be one. The restaurant one, however, is a business, I usually try to only do things that weren't done by someone else before so I am probably not going to do a restaurant.
