Origin and CNC4

I just got cnc4 it came down to a price which i think is acceptable for me to buy just for the story

 

Anyway, when i read it required origin (it said ea download manager which I understand are the same thing), I became alarmed I am just looking for some advice. I have seen at least a few recounts of some pretty bad experiences with it

 

Also I was told it had a habit of scanning your computer < this alarmed me most

 

So i was wondering if any was using it could give some advice, are some of thing I have heard untrue. If true is it possible to stop it

 

Also does it conflict with steam?

 

I just want some answers and advice before I go ahead installing
