Frein
As the topic says, Serana completely lost her head in my game. It doesn't render at all whether she has her hood on or not. It seemed to have started after I updated some mods, though none of them should have had anything to do with Serana or character appearance in general. I then tried deactivating all my mods to see if it was somehow caused by one anyway, but she still doesn't have her head, yet she renders correctly when observed with CK. I also tried going back to earlier saves but they all have the same issue. Any idea of what could be causing this? Is a complete re-install the only potential solution? JanusForbeare
I'm assuming you've tried a simple "resurrect" console command?
Frein
I'm assuming you've tried a simple "resurrect" console command?Yep, doesn't do anything. I'm now re-downloading the game from Steam. edit: Argh! Head still missing after a re-install! Why does the game have to be so utterly broken?? Why Bethesda, why? ;_; Edited September 20, 2012 by Frein
SFBryan18
Probably a mods fault.

JanusForbeare
I've created a mod which should correct this issue. I didn't have any NPCs around to test it on, so I had to create one - and his head, while severed from his body, was still balancing precariously on his neck stump (prior to being "recapitated", that is). However, the fix did work on him. You can test it out if you like: JanusForbeare's Recapitation. If it does work for you, could you please take some before and after screenshots that I can add to the mod page? She didn't get beheaded in a fight, the game just doesn't render the head at all, which makes me suspect a corrupt/missing data file. I'm now re-downloading the game for the third time in order to try without any added data files to see if the problem persists. So far I've determined that it's not caused by a loaded plugin as it happens on any save, even after a re-install and with no mods active. Now it really seems like a missing data file problem to me. I'm not entirely certain that the mod I uploaded works as intended, so I've hidden it pending more review. However, the missing head without decapitation issue was mentioned to me by one of its first downloaders, who managed to fix it through a werewolf transformation (headless human -> werewolf -> normal human). Of course, in his case, his character was the one missing its head, which made it easier to fix. I'm not sure what's out there in terms of mods that allow you to trigger similar transformations in your companions, but if you can somehow infect Serana with lycanthropy and get her to transform, that should solve your problem. Frein
I found the file responsible. It was C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim\Data\meshes\actors\character\FaceGenData\FaceGeom\Dawnguard.esm\0002B6C.nif I don't know where the file came from, but removing it returned her head. Unfortunately for some reason her mouth does not move when she talks and this happens even on a completely new install with no extra files. Does anyone know what that .nif is for? edit: Seems like it was from Serana Revised. I'm not sure why it didn't immediately bug out but rather some time after having installed it. Still haven't figured out the speech thing, though. I'm hoping it's just a temporary bug. Edited September 23, 2012 by Frein
