Ares1
ok I'm trying Hickory's fix that I saw in another thread Link: Oblivion crashes when loading exterior cells Thread Fix: If you have absolutely no mods installed, and you have a new game save, load in the save that works (interior) and make a clean save as follows: Open the console and type coc testinghall set timescale to 30 saveini Now, without going into any of the other rooms (keep the looting temptation at bay) wait for a full four days (72 hours) and typesave "New Save" wait until the game saves and then type qqq Now restart the game and load your new save and type coc weyeexterior That will reset all of the cells and get you outside in Weye. I'll see if this works.... if not i have noticed a recurring theme.. the crashes are not random as I previously thought... they seem to occur on the road directly above the Imperial city between Aleswell and Vilverin and right outside Bruma (sometimes directly outside Cloud ruler temple or on the road from it to Bruma) I'm going to try it three ways: 1) with my mods because it crashed even without them 2) if #1 doesn't work I'll remove all mods except my current armor and other essential character feature mods 3) if nothing else works i'll remove everything and try it and then do a "showracemenu" command on myself if it works and restore my character ..::Update::.. option #1 Failed option #2 Failed - I'll check what ObMM mods i have enabled though most were disabled because they use esps but I do have hud mods and texture mods though I doubt they are causing the errors I'm also going to check ObMM and set up an archive Invalidation file Edited September 23, 2012 by Ares1
Hickory
@ hickory sorry for the confusion when I grabbed my current mod list I forgot to grab the bashed patch in there as well. Please start up Wrye Bash and right click / view mods. Copy and paste *everything*. Unless you include everything, diagnosing online is impossible. Also include any OBSE plugins you have installed. Hickory
Ok, there's a few mods in there that I don't recognize. But for now, going on your observation of crashes in specific outdoor areas (IC, Aleswell, Vilverin, Bruma), it may be that you have dirty data in some exterior cells. My suggestion is to do a clean save. Do this, to the letter... Open the console and type: coc center set timescale to 30 saveini Now, while still in no-man's-land, wait for 4 full days -- do NOT fast travel or coc to anywhere else. After you have waited for the full four days, type in the console: save "cleansave" Once the game has saved, type: qqq Now restart the game and load your 'cleansave' file. Fast travel to Bruma (or where you would normally crash) and see if things are the same, or not. I'll leave you with that for now -- it's 1.30 am here, so I'm off to get some shut-eye. Ares1
odd. This seemed to fix the crash between Vlverin and Aleswell but not the one near Bruma. ..::Update::..This is really odd the crash zone the was between Aleswell and Vilverin seems to have migrated to between Fort Empire (bit west on the road from Aleswell) to Weye... The Bruma Crash still exists.. It's like this games sole ambition is to utterly refuse to let me play it... purely speculation but your fix did work when after doing everything i coc'd to vilverin exterior and it worked maybe if I do it again and coc into or around a crash zone it may fix it. Probably not needed but I find things are easier to solve with a visual representation.. Here is a map of my current and solved crash zones who knows it may prove usefull.. Hickory
Well, here's one I spotted: you have All Natural - Real Lights.esp in your list, but you do not have All Natural installed. There's a crash vector for you. That leads me to my question: how many other mods (since I don't recognize some of them) are wrongly installed? How do you manage your mods? OBMM? Wrye Bash? NMM? On a side note, while you are troubleshooting, uninstall Streamline completely.
zack1293
A note on saving ... never use quicksave, it's a known corrupter of save files. Use save from the Esc menu or console named saves only. Another good habit to get into is always exit the game to the desktop before loading a save. I actually got in the bad habit of doing just that and forgot to make a normal esc save style save on a character and 6 hours in oblivion crashed while quicksaving and my auto save was also corrupted. I've learned my lesson :P I wouldn't blame bethesda for oblivion being shakey like it is. Just learning a little about scripting and modding in general has given me a whole new appreciation for how much work they must have put in just to make such huge games and the fact that they give us computer players tools like the construction set and geck is beyond awesome. I can't imagine taking on the project of bug testing such a huge process. If testing a new quest mod takes work testing the whole game must be hell. On a side note, while you are troubleshooting, uninstall Streamline completely. all natural real lights should be installed correctly but I'll remove it just in case. Mainly because I installed in as an omod file on ObMM and it gave me the only real lights option. I use NMM on normal mods (not Omods) and i check that they are actually be installed correctly (mainly because so many oblivion mods were made before NMM and don't follow a standard format) I use ObMM to install most Omods because that tend to be more compatible with it than NMM (well at least oblivion mods) Finally i use BOSS to sort and Wyre Bash to make bashed patches. on a last note ill disable streamline, not sure if i need it anyways at this point ..::Update::.. The first test didn't work still crash by fort empire. I'll do the wait trick again to clear the data and try again nope didn't work Since I do have the Steam version I'll check the cache, who knows it may work.. I think at this point I may just do a complete reinstall, unless you have any more ideas? Edited September 24, 2012 by Ares1
Hickory
I think at this point I may just do a complete reinstall, unless you have any more ideas? I thinks there is more going on than is apparent from on-line communication -- it's an extremely inefficient medium. Reinstalling may be your best course.
