charwo
Hey I just got a copy of NV ultimate Edition last night at Walmart and I'm not happy. Why in the Hell is this one Steam? I don't want Steam, I want NV on my frickin hard drive, so I don't have to play with an internet connect, that I lose intermittently. I don't want to play the game through a service, I want the game free and clear! And on a more practical level, how the hell do I put mods on this thing when it's being played through Steam?! Did I get bamboozled, cause the front cover didn't say nothing about this. I'm upset.
TheVampireDante
All PC versions of Fallout New Vegas (retail disc and digital download) use Steam. It's been like that since the game was released. Maybe you should have read everything on the case (front and back) before buying.... As for adding mods - everyone else seems to manage just fine doing it.
charwo
Well, in all honestly, I saw the thing about Steam. However, and this is the critical part....it said Steam is needed to activate. Not run. I thought that was for copyright protections reasons, but then there was going to be a download. And operations like that I've done before, being a fan of older games that no longer exist on physical copies. However, since the Fallout 3 version of activating mods isn't going to work here, I will need instructions on how to download, distribute and active mods. Plus....I have the FOMM manager that can work for both 3 and NV, but I still have 3 on my system and do I recalibrate it or something to do FOMM loads for New Vegas? I game, the everything's familiar, out of game? Not so much. I'm just confused and need to know where to go to get answers, although the knowledge that I didn't get a PC copy where I couldn't mod has caused my heart to return to normal beats per minute, and for that I thank you Dante. Still, the lack of an internet problem looks to still be a problem. I'm going to be moving soon and if this game MUST have an internet connection to play I may or may not be SOL. Is there a workaround?
TheVampireDante
You can set Steam to offline mode and try that. It's sketchy at times itself, but it does work (least it has for me). Modding: http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Category:New_Vegashttp://geck.bethsoft.com/index.php/Main_Page In all basics, modding works in exactly the same way as Fallout 3. charwo
Well, that doesn't answer my question. I have FOMM, it's set up to run Fallout 3. I load the thing, it shows all of my Fallout 3 mods and load order and if I press load FOSE it goes into Fallout 3. However, do I need to unistall this version and re-install one that works for New Vegas? If I upload a Vegas mod, like Wateland Flora, won't the FOMM try and run it in Fallout 3? Thing is, I see a lot of instructions on how to operate FOMM with New Vegas, but nothing on what happens when you have mods galore for both Fallout 3 and New Vegas and keeping the two separate. JimboUK
There is a version of FOMM that works for both FO3 and Vegas, that said I've never been able to use it with Vegas so I use NMM instead now and just keep FOMM around for TESSnip and the BSA browser. charwo
Thanks Jim! Now I have the thing installed, and to test it I put on the Wasteland Overhaul mod (fertile version). In the Data files it says it's there, but when I load it up, there seems to be no change. Although to be honest right now I started at Goodsprings to Primm to the Divide, so there's a chance those areas are not effected.
JimboUK
There should be something there, it's hard to miss. You could try enabling it with NMM and seeing if it looks any different.
charwo
Oh it's working, but unlike Badass Restoration Project, the differences around Goodsprings are fairly subtle. Comparatively mind you. Coming out of Vault 101 in vanilla and with BWR are two different fricking universes. Thank you though, It seems to be working fine. Well, as well as mod managers go, and they're always a little kinky.
JimboUK
That sounds like "Summer" for FO3, you step out of Vault 101 and into Cyrodiil.
