Fallout 4 Creation kit error "Failed to Load Fragments" Solution.

Over the last few months I've encountered this error twice in the CK, with ingame scripts. Usually when I'm working on a mod that uses ingame scripts I will verify the fragment or script with the creation kit, usually in quest dialogue to make sure I have it right.

Today I encountered the error again so went to my Steam backup folder and verified the issue was the same as before. For some reason every time FO4 updates, the source files for the game are removed from the Script folder. In the past people have said just use the rar file or the zip file where they are kept. Well I didn't have the rar/zip file the first time it happened so i used my Steam backup folder.

Here's what you do if you encounter the error "Failed To Load Fragments" in the creation kit.

If you have a backup Steam folder go to Fallout 4, chances are the source files will be there. Verify your folders in both installations of FO4.

If you do not have a backup Steam installation, then you will need this tool

Bethesda Archive Extractor, so far it's the best tool for extracting Beth Archives easy to use and will work for SSE, Skyrim and FO4

Open the tool, go to your FO4 data folder and find

Fallout4--Misc.BA2

Drag and drop the file in to the tool. Look for the scripts folder, move on to the next procedure.

Go to,

Data/Scripts/Source You will see the folders

Base

DLC01

DLC02

DLC03

DLC04

DLC05

DLC06

If your using the tool I would suggest , extracting the folders to a separate location as a backup because I will guarantee the files will be removed again at some time in the future. It's happened to me twice already.

Open the folders in both your data folder and the extracted folder

First open Base, in both you will see the folders,

Creation Club

Fragments

Hardcore

Ignore the Creation Club folder if you don't have mods from it.

compare the two folders

Verify what's missing in your Base folder.

If all the loose files are missing, copy and paste them in to the Base folder. I personally prefer to do the loose files then open the folders and do them separately, that's up to you.

Next open the folder Fragments you will see

Packages

Perks

Quests

Scenes

Terminals

TopicInfos

Open each folder and compare them to the extracted folders, if the folder is empty then copy and paste the files from the extracted folder to the empty folder. Do the same for each folder.

Now go back to Base and open Hardcore and do the same.

All the DLC folders have their zip files in them. if they are missing move them as well, so you at least have them if you need to extract them.

That's it now if you go in to the CK all the in game fragments will load.

Hope this helps.
