TDKR
Other than the standard Oblivion glitches, this is the only problem I've had.I've counted 5 large locations of the map that whenever I enter it instantly crashes every time. Areas include:south of Leyawiinthe whole city of Bravilnorth of Chorrol / west of Brumabetween the Imperial City and Skingradand north of Cheydinhal I've done some research and found similar occurrences, but all different and do not help.I installed Oblivion from the "Game of the Year" [DVD] which means its the newest version.I've tried many small fixes, none of which work, and I fear that the only thing left to do is re-install it.I have a bad feeling it could be the drive that messed it up during instillation, so it could just keep doing it in different areas if I re-install it. if you have any suggestions that don't involve instillation, please tell (I ignored this glitch for a while, but now it is keeping me from completing many quests.I don't know how much longer I can last!) What does that mean, exactly? Do you have a flaky hard drive? Flaky DVD? What? Let's get this out of the way before talking about mod lists. TDKR
I don't have any mods on yet, just bare bones Oblivion v1.2.0416as far as the hard drive, it's not flaky, not yet at leastthe DVD - I hope it isn't, but its in mint condishI'm afraid it's the drive, because I've had a few problems with it before

Hickory
Right, I was more concerned that your hard drive may be flaky, which could have produced errors during gameplay. Windows is pretty good at trashing an install from a flaky DVD drive, so you should assume that your install is error free in that respect. So... on to the problem. You say you only have bare bones Oblivion, with no mods whatsoever? Ok, first of all turn off 'Save on...<wait/fast travel/whatever>' All of them. And be certain that you quit to desktop, so that your ini is saved. Restart Oblivion. If that doesn't help, you'll have to explain what you meant by "many small fixes".
