Running into trouble with manual downloads and 7zip.

Hey all, I've run into a bit of an issue. For a while now, my preferred method for downloading mods has been to select "manual download", open the files in 7zip and then drag them into the "Data" folder. Sudden for some inexplicable reason I am unable to extract and drag the files to where I want them, not even to my desktop or anything. Every time I try my cursor turns into the circle and slash, indicating that I can't drag the file.

Now, I know that this is not a problem with the mods themselves because I tested it with a few others for both Skyrim and Fallout 4 and have the same issue. Other files can be clicked on a dragged around normally between windows and the desktop, so it has to be 7zip. I just can't figure out why it decided not to extract anymore. If anyone here can help me out here, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks.

try temporary disabling your antivirus/ protection (protection = Windows Defender etc etc)

the files could potentionally be blocked or scanned, thus preventing extraction.

could also be your OS may be blocking the files, if so you can right click on them select properties, and click on Unblock.

could also be your harddrive may be full, or close to, and thus will prevent you from extracting, given the fact uncompressed content is always bigger in size then compressed content.

without more information i can only speculate

you can also try running a live Linux installation, and extracting said files via linux (i recommend ubuntu) you dont need to install it, just put it on a usb stick, and then you can go straight into ubuntu, and extract your files their, this will no doubt be a temporary solution however, since you may need to do this every time you download mods. (if you wish to go this route, let me know, and i will give you instructions in how to do this) of course this bit here assumes you are not actually running linux, and have never run it.

otherwise, what OS are you using ?

and i will try to help further

i will say i have never had any issues whatsoever with 7zip, hence the information above this line.

Checking on 7zip I agree, also can you in the program tell it to extract the files where you want. All you have to do is highlight said files, tap the extract button and then direct that dialogue to the needed spot on your drive. I would suggest if you're new to that or want to be safe, make a test folder to dump the extraction to and then move the files from there where you need them.
