Tandwan
Ok, I am not the smartest person in the world and I accept this fact while moving on. I just wanted to put this out there so all of you can get a grasp on the complete moron you're working with before I disappoint you with my complete and utter stupidity. I am trying to get SKSE working with steam and I have did everything within my power to get this thing actually working. I have looked online, read multiple different threads, read different work arounds and did tons of work on my own files to get this working proper to no avail. I started out manually trying to do this and it didn't work even after I tried several times by following the instructions listed on http://skse.silverlock.org/ website. Sad and frustrated I went to Nexus mod and read and found there was NMM download that was available and a Steam working version. With a lot of excitement I quickly downloaded the file and read over it and let it install itself before starting the game. I got the same result with the box in the top right corner telling me that it couldn't detect SKSE and that it wasn't installed. My steam is updated to the newest version of Dawnguard and everything seems to be in working order. It's not a problem with NMM because all the other mods I use work correctly. Interesting enough is that I can run SkyUI which requires this mod perfectly fine with the occasional glitch even though SKSE isn't working. The file I have issues with right now is the modified quick action bar, a lot of the information is off the screen. I'm lost, confused, frustrated, angry and confused in that order and would appreciate any and all help I can get here. Mods: If this was posted in the incorrect location please either delete this or move this, i'm sorry it's my first time posting here.
Georgiegril
Hi, you know, the real idiots are the people who profess to know it all.;) Sorry you are having a hard time with this! Are you using Windows 7? Look in C:/Program files/Steam/Steamapps/common/skyrimDo you have the following files? skseloader.exeskse1_7_7.dllskse_steam_loader.dll If not go back to your skse downloaded (and extracted) files, find these three and paste them to that location. If you find that you have more than 1 copy of these files in the skyrim folder, then I would remove them all and then copy/paste the three from your current skse folder. Then, open the data folder (right where you are at) inside that is the script folder. Did you copy and paste all of the .pex files from the skse download into that folder? If you find that all three are there, and you copied the .pex files as well, the problem may be something else rather than an incorrect installation of skse. Especially if you are able to use SkyUI without getting a message about it not detecting your skse.
JanusForbeare
I posted a step by step guide in response to your question... and the forums farted out on me and it disappeared into the internets. Sigh. As a result, I'm going to be brief. First off, you don't come off as a moron, just someone who's not familiar with installing SKSE. We've all been there. Don't stress, you're not alone. 1) Once you've downloaded the most recent version of SKSE from the page you've provided, double-click on the first folder that comes up in 7zip (or winzip, or whatever archiving utility you use). 2) Highlight all the files and extract them to your Skyrim directory (NOT your Skyrim/data/ directory). 3) At this point, SKSE is installed. To use it, you have to launch the game using "SKSE_loader.exe", which will be in your Skyrim directory. Do this every time you launch the game. 4) You may want to consider replacing any shortcuts you use to launch the game (on your desktop, in your "Games" folder, etc.) with a shortcut pointing to "SKSE_loader.exe". Don't move the original file, just right-click on it, select "Create shortcut" and move the newly created shortcut (which you can feel free to rename to "Skyrim", it won't affect anything). That's all you need to do! Hopefully that'll solve your problem.
Tandwan
Thanks to both of you for replying here, I went through what you said and had all the files you mentioned. I even went back and recopied all the files into the folder but now every time I click on the loader it says : Can not find TES_.exe Yet, i'm looking at the file. As I said, followed the instructions on the website to the letter and I have done exactly what it told me to do. By all accounts it SHOULD be working but for some reason it refuses to work. Edit: And then I figured it out. Ok, for those who may find this thread and say : Wow he's having the same issues I am having, let me tell you the fix. It took some more searching but then I found an obscure reference thread and the answer there. You've done everything correctly, it's a problem with SKSE but it is one you can fix. How you fix this is go into your Data folder and then open the SKSE folder. Inside you will find the SKSE.ini file. Open the INI and you will see that it says : [Loader]RuntimeName=TES_.exe You're going to change the above to read : [Loader]RuntimeName=TESV.exe This will tell the loader what your current start file is and everything will work perfectly fine and it will load the game up. Sorry to have wasted the time of you guys helping me, but hey, at least there's an answer for this issue now :P Thanks again. bben46
Thank you for sharing this bit of lore. Too many either never check back or post something like "I fixed it" and don't tell what they did to fix it. Interestingly enough - I don't have a SKSE.ini in my Skyrim\data\SKSE folder. Or anywhere else either. :psyduck:My guess is this is added by some mod and if there is no SKSE.ini, and you don't have any mods that require it - it works without it.
