Larger New Vegas world map

I bet someone has already asked this, but I didn't find anything on it, so I have to ask;

is it possible to enlarge the New Vegas world map? I was hoping for something of a similar size as the MERP mod map.

What I'd like to see is just that the much greater distances, with exactly the same content as now. I realize that its not for all, but I don't like to get to places quickly, I want it to take time. To get the same feeling as in many post-apocalyptic movies, such as the Six-String Samurai, Book of Eli or the Road; long streches of uninhabited, empty desert, crossed by the old highways. Would be awesome when combined with the hardcore mode, Nevada Skies and mods that give me much less loot.

Anyway, how much work would it be and would it be even possible?

Now, this is outside of my area of expertise so don't take my word for it, but I don't think you should count on anybody being able to do this. All that extra space would have to be filled with something, that in itself is a job that would require weeks if not months of work, even for a group of modders. Pretty much all the vanilla content would have to be moved away from each other to squeeze in new content. I don't know if it's possible to do that, but if it is I can only imagine the amount work that has to be done in order to make everything line up perfectly and prevent bugs from happening. There's also the issue of LOD, and again, that stuff is like magic to me, but I've heard something about it being impossible to generate LOD for the entire Wasteland. Now imagine trying with a map twice the size.

So in short, don't count on it. And don't get me wrong, I'd like it just about as much as you do. All that extra land would be awesome, and with additional wildlife and some mods to make the environment harsher, a trip to the next town would be a trip that needed some planning instead of just wandering out.

I agree with everything stated here. I would love nothing more than to have a map the size of Morrowind. (Shame on you Bethesda and Obsidian for downsizing the maps!) However that would require a mod team at least half the size of a dev team. But if any skilled enough modders are reading this. Please consider it!

Yeah, I thought as much. I wish I knew enough of landscape modding (or any kind of modding at all) to at least suggest some ways to do those things, but sadly I don't.

They way I thought it to be made is to enlarge existing the map, not move the borders father away into areas that are not currently in the game, and then move all existing features/locations to their respective places on the larger map. This would make all dinstances much greater, but would not add new locations and whatnot. The terrain types would be of course made to cover a larger area, no new terrain types would be added.

At least in the basic version there would be no need to add new spawn points or things like that, just keep the existing ones (but moved to their respective places in the larger map). This would then require the modder(s) only covering the new stretches of land with the already-existing vegetation/desert types of that particular area, and place the existing locations as well as the spawn points on their new places. This sounds pretty simple to me, but only because I don't know enough of modding, I bet it's not that simple in reality.

So the basic version might feel a bit empty, with only an occasional caravan, animal or a Jackal highwayman coming into sight, which is just the way I'd like it to be. With the spawn points so rare, looting food, water and ammunition would be difficult, also the way I like it.

After the basic version, this mod would be a good basis for other modders to add new settlements, ruins, more wildlife and travelers etc. if they want.

Maybe this mod will never be made, but one can always hope!
