TheFilthyGoTDirt
My favorite game MAG for the PS3 is on its last legs playerbase wise. I came to Nexus to grab some of the cooler Skyrim mods to play while I wait in que. But I couldn't pass up an opportunity to say that this game is great, and to ask you to come and play (The entire game is free to try/play up to level 8). Aegrus
Ah, yes, MAG. I used to play that quite a bit- and it really is fun. One of the best Multi-player experiences on the ps3, IMO. I will never forget mowing down hordes of Valor players as they swarmed a heavily defended SVER fortress. . . near their entire team rushed us- I'd estimate about 100 Valor versus about twenty SVER, and none of them made it through the door. We called in artillery and rained fire on them from covered positions in every window in that building. . .'Tis one of my fondest multiplayer memories of all time. On the down side (and this is what made me quit- I'm not really sure if it's still this way, but it was when I left), every side has a different play style- but only SVER really used their play style. SVER is the close range, heavy damage offensive force. Their maps have minimal cover, their guns have tons of recoil and do a lot of damage. They're supposed to be the commando-happy side. Raven is the ranged and tech support force. Their maps have lots of towers, foliage, and hills. They have the best support devices, snipers, and ranged weapons. They don't do too well when they go commando, but a well organized team is near unstoppable. Valor is the cover-centric defensive side. They have the best LMG's and the most cover. All their bunkers have firing angles on each other. They're intended to be the strongest defensive force. The problem is, everyone when I was playing went offensive/commando, just like SVER- only that style doesn't work for anyone but SVER. Raven and Valor it seemed like always ditched their niches and tried close range rushes, because that's what most people naturally do in most online games, and SVER always had the advantage in close range blood-letting. So of course, SVER used to win nearly every match. It got so unbalanced that SVER got most of the player base on its side. Not being one to bet on a winning horse, I fled SVER, and joined Raven. I think I still have a level 20 sniper there. . . maybe I'll give it a shot again.
hoofhearted4
i think i played the demo or whatever like a year ago. always meant to get it when it was cheap, and now its been cheap for a long time and i never got it. im not a big fps fan at all. only one i ever played online was BFBC2. i got really good at that lol, but its the only one i ever played. so i just never got MAG. despite the small interest i had, because i knew it just wasnt my niche. i heard there was a lot they could do to improve it. i know how unique and innovative it was/tried to be, and from people i talked to who played it, they said if a MAG 2 ever came out, and fixed what MAG needed, it really could be a milestone in online shooters. though i think i remember reading or hearing that a MAG 2 isnt likely. then again, maybe i didnt hear that, idr :P
Rennn
I spent $60 on it and was massively disappointed. The game is usually good, but the "community" ruined it. People knife snipers from their own team in the back and trash-talk them, calling the "filthy spawn humpers" etc. I spent $15 on dlc only to find out that absolutely nobody is playing the dlc maps, so I just wasted $15 on something I'll never get to play. The squad leaders are usually massive ***** and call artillery on their own squads half the time. Then if you ever get to be a squad leader, everyone else votes to kick you from the match so they can have a shot at being a squad leader. The knife is ultra fast and ultra long-range, so you can lag-knife someone to death from 10 feet away once you get the knife upgrades. My whole squad got taken down by one guy with a knife several times whenever we tried to take a bunker. Nevermind that the guy spawned silently right behind us. -_- The LMG is still massively OP despite being nerfed many times, so using any other gun is almost useless. Want to snipe? Use the LMG with a bipod. Want to get a reasonable number of kills? LMG. Want to shoot a light vehicle to death? LMG with heavy armor. You can't shoot through glass, so players can use any random window and pane of glass as a blast-proof shield. I had high hopes for this, but it's terribly unbalanced and laggy. No doubt this came off as a rant, but I played the game for about a dozen patches. I overlooked the above issues at first, because good balance and teamwork is more important than whether or not we can shoot through glass. I bought it at launch for $60, then paid for the first dlc. I watched the game grow stagnant, as the constant patches failed to fix even the simplest problems (like bullet accuracy cones). I entered the most empty modes to support the community. I joined PHI on Raven and participated in rare clan matches, when we could gather enough people, and PHI actually won quite a few games against SVER in those days. But after all that, and after all the worrying about the player numbers dropping, the game population still slowly switched from mature gamers to teamkilling ~10 year olds spamming death threats and fat jokes. Eventually I just left. The state that the community was in last year when I quit was truly saddening, and I've lost all respect for Zipper, and for the game. That's actually what moved me more towards rpgs and pc gaming. Edited October 10, 2012 by Rennn
RubikNight
Just to much power to players who grinded. 256 players? One team parachutes in, the other shoots. Overall it seemed to unbalanced...
