Permissions?!?

Hi Everyone!

When it comes to creating mods using the CK and the NPC Editor I am a total newbie. That said over the past couple of days I have created my first follower mod. I would like to share it with the Skyrim/Nexus community, but i don't want to do anything that is going to get me banned from the Nexus. I am a little confused by the following statement;

"I testify that all the content in the files I am going to upload are my own or are used with the express permission of the original creators of the files I have used and I have properly credited the original creators in my ReadMe, and in the mod description or in the "Credits" text area of the "Distribution permission" section of this page. I understand and accept that I will be banned from this site if I am found to be lieing about this."

For example, If I have body and face mods added to my game and I create an NPC follower using those mods and then upload it for other people to use, do I need to get permissions from all those body and face modders and the like before I upload it? Thank you.

If your mod, the stuff you upload, contains files that are from other mods you have to ask for the author's permission. If the author mentions that his mod is free to use (even without being credited) on the download site you can use it without asking. Edited by ghosu

Thanks, but I am still confused?!? For example, I use Apachii Sky Hair in my game and my newly created Follower uses one of those hair styles. Does that mean I need to get their permission?

If you include the mesh and texture for the hair in the mod you upload, then yes, you will. If you don't include them, but state in your description that the Apachii Sky Hair mod is required for the character to appear properly, then there's no problem. Most people choose the second option.

Forgive my confusion, but I think I understand?!? When I created my follower in the CK there was no option to select Apachii Sky Hair, for example. I had to go into the NPC Editor and chose the hair style that I liked on her. So in that regard after saving Athena to my personal game data folder I use the .esp and the .bsa files that the NPC Editor created. That is what I was going to upload to Nexus for others to use. Am I correct in assuming that I have in fact utilized the mesh and texture of the Apachii Sky Hair? Thank you. I live in fear of screwing up and getting banned. I have never done this before.

Correct, you used Apachii's hair mesh. Like the person previously said, the simplest way would be to redirect your followers hair back to the Apachii file, then place in your description that Apachii Hair is required for your follower to look correct.
