Any mod at all crashes Skyrim to desktop

Okay so I downloaded a load of mods from the nexus but to activate them I need to tick the boxes in Data Files and whatnot. But whenever I tick so much as one box, the game will come on but as soon as the Bethesda logo disappears, so too does the game. There is no error message or anything. It just turns off. The game works perfectly fine when there is nothing except the official Skyrim box ticked though...

But I wanna play with mods

It sounds like you could have a problem with load order and/or missing masters. It may also be an idea to verify your game cache on Steam as the game itself has been known to be corrupted (happened to me when I got my rebuilt rig back.)

You need to understand what you are installing and how to install it before you start using mods. Did you run Skyrim without any mods to generate an ini first>

Did you install the basics, the important tools - Nexus Mod Manager, BOSS and SKSE? The first two help you manage your mods and the third is a requirement of many mods, and lack of it will also cause crashes.

Having done a reinstall myself, once I had persuaded the game to download without corrupt files, I introduced mods one by one, made sure the game loads after each one, then went to the next one. Never shove in a ton of mods all at once.

Yeah Id already played a bit of it beforehand.

I tried downloading SKSE but my game isnt up to date so it wont let me use that, Nexus Mod Manager I hadnt yet had a chance to install and Ive never heard of BOSS.

Thanks for the advice :)

I had this probable before. This could help:

Type %appdata% in your start button search thing

Check out your local files for skyrim (Might have to go back two folders to find the local files)

You should find a txt document called plugins. Open it. If you see two skyrim files at the top delete one. It doesn't matter which one you delete. Save it and try to launch normally from steam.

If the steam launch works try using the mod manager again. If it doesn't go the same problem might of happened. What I did to fix it was upgrade to latest version for the mod manager. Hope it helps
