Problem with console command

I got it working! I went into device manager and went to Human Interface Devices and uninstalled the INE CIR device driver and boom, it works!

Is that for Infared devices? You sure that after you uninstall it, the console window works? Cos I dont have the INE CIR device. INstead I have the Winbond CIR Transceiver. Is it the same? If I uninstall it, what will happen?

I made a topic in the mod discussion about how to maybe fix the problem. I think it might have to do with something changing the way the Tilde key (~) is expressed to the game.

I have discovered that when I try to bind the ~ key to a different action, using Settings -> Controls -> Action mapping, the key is listed as 148. But when my friend tried the same thing (he has a working console), a message tells him he cannot bind that key.

I have Windows Vista 32-bit Premium, and the friend I have that has a working console has Vista 64-bit Ultimate. But my cousin has the same problem I do, but has XP Home.

To tell you the truth, now i notice that i can't open any console window in any game. Crysis,Farcry 2, Oblivion & Fallout 3 are among them. But I could open the console window in Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare. Just what the hell is wrong with my laptop!!?! (T__T)""" Btw where is the link to the mod discussion? Could you paste the link?

There's the link, but I just described the same thing as above. As for your problem with the other games, I too cannot open the console in Crysis, and I assume that Farcry uses a variant of the same engine as Crysis does. I think that what I have found applies to the CryEngine as well as FO3's Gamebryo engine.

After a little digging I found a temporary solution to the "misplaced text" problem :

The source of the problem is a miscalculation between the screen and console positions( nothing new here :P ) and while this is not existent in Oblivion, it is in Fallout 3 .

To fix this go to your : My Documents/My Games/Fallout3

Make a backup, of Fallout3.ini and Fallout3Prefs.ini before changing anything .Open these two on notepad and find the line "iConsoleTextXPos=" (without the quotes) . Its value will probably be 30 , although this can change depending on the resolution you set for the game, as well as your monitor size .If you change the value from 30 to 200 you will probably see the cursor/runner on the bottom left of your screen .If not then probably if you write something that you wrote before you will see more of the text or the error on the screen .

This worked fine for my 19" monitor with 1280*1024 resolution for Fallout 3(and everything else ;D ) .So if the values above did not help, you can adjust them until its on the position you desire .Just make sure you backup before you start the changes, don't make extreme changes however and send the cursor to the other side of the screen :P .

If the same problem appears in oblivion then changing the same line in oblivion.ini should fix it, although this didn't occur to me and the value was 30 .

I hope this helps !

Q: How do I access the console in the game?

A: To access the console in the game, press the ~ (tilde) key on the keyboard. For a complete list of the console commands, type help in the console

NOTE: The Tilde key should be to the left of the 1 key on the top row. If you are in the UK, and have your keyboard configured for the UK, the key is not going to be the same. To get to the console, press the ` (grave accent) key top left of keyboard, instead of the ~ (tilde) key. (That's where the tilde is on a US keyboard).

If you have a new system with the Microsoft eHome devices, these will conflict with the program being able to read the scan code for the tilde key from the keyboard. Those Microsoft eHome devices or drivers need to be disabled in order to allow the game to "see" the tilde key being pressed. The MIRC (Microsoft Infrared Remote Control) seems to disable the tilde (~) key in both Oblivion and Morrowind. Simply disconnecting the MIRC from the USB port will fix this issue

http://support.bethsoft.com/eng/resolution...I&rid=15400

I went into device manager and uninstalled the microsoft eHome device driver, since it wouldn't allow me to disable it, and now I can access the console. I'm running vista 64 bit on my laptop and had this problem with oblivion too, but I found a mod that circumvented the issue. Note the italicized/bold text in the quotation.

Hope this helps.

I had a similar problem when I first tried to use the console commands.

I was using a cursor add on called cursor fx, and I know from running sims 2 there was similar problems.

The simple solution was to disable cursor fx, so when I was unable to access the console commands, in FO3 I immediately thought of the sims 2 problem, and disabled my cursor add on and it worked.

Obviously I don't know if you're running a cursor add on since it hasn't been mentioned, but on the slim chance that you are using a cursor add on, try disabling it. Also I use a game pad for playing FO3. When I have it turned on I can't access console commands, so I have to turn it off to be able to access the console.

I know it's a long shot, but on the off chance you're using a cursor add on try disabling it. Good luck, hope you find a solution.
