Question about Game Saves

Hello all. This is my first time posting here so I hope I am not posting anything that has been discussed before (I've tried searching multiple times for the answer already), but I really could use a bit of help. In my Skyrim game, everything seems to be working quite well, and I am in fact running the game on pretty high settings on an older machine by turning of all my shadows. However, I have some problems with my saved games. It seems that I am having a hard time deleting them or saving over them. Every time I try to clean out my saves in game, they just come right on back the next time I load up Skyrim. I have saved over them, and I always have the new saves, but the old ones won't get saved over or deleted. Any help/advice on this would be appreciated.

I am running Skyrim with no add-ons and the latest update. I do have some mods though, but not too many. I have been -very- careful to check that I am not accidentally saving over autosaves or anything like that.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Well, especially if you are trying to squeeze out as much performance as possible from your computer, I'd suggest disabling autosaves entirely. They tend to increase the chances of save corruption, and they also cause lags and other annoyances.

However, to answer your question, have you tried deleting the save games by going into your folder from windows explorer, and deleting that way? In Windows 7, the default path is mydocuments\mygames\skyrim. I think its about the same in XP, but without the "my."

By the way, if you are looking for other ways to tweak your computer, you may find this site useful (RookieNoob's Tweak Guide)...it discusses various tweaks for both low and high end computers and discusses their impact on performance and quality. I have a nice computer with a crappy video card, and this site has help me make it smooth and pretty.
