XCOM: Enemy Unknown reimagined (again)

I don't imagine this kind of a mod request will spark many peoples interest as they will just say "Check out Xenonauts" but...

I'm hoping some extremely talented modder out there remakes this new XCOM to be exactly like the original X-COM.

Choosing where in the world exactly to place your base, time units, snap shot aimed shot auto shot... Pretty much the whole shebang. As well as music!

I understand firaxis had originally intended to do this. Jake Solomon stated that early XCOM prototypes were pretty much straight up reboots of the original

I agree, and I am SURE someone will do it.

XCOM was a simulation, and they turned it into a "game".

Its just funny it started out as, well we have boardgames, but with this Computer thing we can take our games further, do ANYTHING and add in all kinds of extra control and depth to better simulate the experience of really doing this.

Then MANY years later we still have the computer with its infinite possibilities and we...use it to emulate a boardgame.

*sigh*

I would still fix some of the issues with the original tho, which they seemed to have addressed such as making the CoN more important than just manufacturing your money, dont make player psychics = easy mode, and dont make increasing soldier stats such a grind / requiring you to manipulate the system by doing ridiculous things.

But thats why we have mods 8-) They can make their money in the Tutorial / Achievement generation ( You clicked start! ACHIEVEMENT! You saved your game ACHIEVEMENT! You're such a great player! Good Job! )

...and the vets can have their game too

Xenonauts isn't modding-friendly in any shape or form, though.

That people would want to mod the game was simply not something the designer was aware of. All the game and UI functions are hardcoded... and now it's too late to change it.

The best you can do is basic content modding, changing the damage of rifles, adding another item of type "rifle", stuff like that.

Jake S said that he's doing most things "in the scripts" which we probably / eventually get access to. That's where the meat is. Creating new things, not just the old things with a different number.

I guess that should read XCOM:EU instead of Xenonauts?

If so I would like to see a source on Jake saying that, if that's where you got it.

That would be extremely dissapointing.

Looking at the release as it is now, it seems to me we could do modding just fine if Firaxis released the editor...
