exanimis
I've built a couple of mods on my laptop using Vista but now I want to learn more by building worldspaces. Whenever I change a mod it doesn't change Tamriel. If I drop a door in Weye for example that leads to my new world, it's not there in game. I can't make any changes to Tamriel with my desktop. All I have on the desktop is Oblivion, the latest patch and three mods that I am working on. I know it's something simple and I have been reading on this site for two days, searching for an answer. exanimis
I use Vista on my laptop but now that I'm switching to my desktop I'll be using XP. My XP is much more powerful and has more memory but for some odd reason I can't make any changes to Tamriel. I usually drop a door outside of Weye and use it to enter my mod in game. I use that method to test my mods but with my XP the door doesn't appear. If I change something (Delete the entire Weye region for example) There is no change in my game, the area is still the way Bethesda made it. I can link doors in the CS but the doors are not where I put them in game. I also tried linking to one of Bethesda's doors (the fence gate in Weye) but in game the gate worked as Bethesda had set it to work.
dezdimona
I'm not all that up on doors and stuff, but when you enter a door don't you need a new cell? an interior cell? like I said, this part of modding isn't my fortay!
exanimis
I don't have problems with connecting doors, as I said, I do it all the time. I just don't understand why I can't make any changes to the original game on XP. I have tried and made sure that the mod is dependent on the Oblivion esm. I tried making Tamerial the parent (big mistake) I have tried linking to both inside and outside cells but there is no change at all in the game when I try to test it in game. If I drop a door, house,NPC or even a creature into Tamerial they are not there when I go into the game I have placed my mod directly below the Oblivion esm in oblivion mod manager and checked it in both regular (limited) and administrator modes I don't understand why it works in Vista but not in XP
Khet
Hey Exanmis, been a while. Quick question before I answer yours, how's your underground keep-thing coming? That said, I'm sure this will be very obvious but double check to be one-hundred percent sure you do infact have the latest Oblivion patch and CS version. I know you mentioned it in your OP but it never hurts to check. If you've saved the mod correctly, and have everything set up in the CS (and even reloading your mod will still show the changes made in the CS) then I honestly would have to say I'm completely stumped. It isn't a Vista/XP problem, I can assure you that much since I use both XP and Vista myself (except for me it's opposite, Vista is on PC and XP is on laptop). I'll do some looking around and see if I can find an answer for you, but in all honesty the Oblivion Patch and CS version is generally the answer. exanimis
I knew it was something simple. I downloaded the patch a few months ago, I just downloaded the newest version and it's working now. All the doors are where they are supposed to be. Thank you again Khet. I am still trying to learn scripting and quest writing so Vella den Keep is moving along very slowly but I will get there. Thanks for asking. Whenever I get frustrated with scripts and quests I go mod more on my Pellucidar mod. Building caves and worlds are easier than scripts and quests
Khet
The simplest explanation is usually the correct one. Glad to hear it all worked out. But you learned another lesson today. Always, always double check when you have a problem. I've made the same mistake myself when I have to reinstall Oblivion (usually after a reformat) and I forget to install the patch then spend an hour trying to figure out why it's not working. Oh, if you have any script/quest questions feel free to PM me. I'm not the greatest at either but I know my way around well enough not to get lost. I'm not doing very well with either and with this other mod taking so much of my time I am not learning very fast.
