the mod we all want

If I said I actually wasn't interested in a mod that killed children, would I get lynched or something?

Seems sort of... pathetic, I don't know.

Maybe if it added a Child Killer perk that made every decent human being hostile to you (which pretty much means no one would ever like you, 'cuz the kind of people in favor of killing children are already always hostile) I'd consider it less awful, but I still wouldn't download it (why take that risk?).

Well, then you explain to that someone, as patiently as you can, the difference between children and pixels on a computer screen.

And isn't it a bit immersion-busting that, as a rugged wasteland mercenary, destroyer of towns, slayer of deathclaws, mutilator of countless raiders... you find yourself simply, ah, "incapable" of showing some snotty, obscenity-spewing kid with a rifle what happens when you talk like that to heavily armed and not too sympathetic adults? What is this, Peter Nuclear Pan? In Fallout 2 you had the ability to kill children. Not that I went off and killed every single one of them, but it was sort of satisfying at one time to let loose a few bursts from an SMG after the fools threw rocks at me while I was wearing powered armor.

Its the option and the ability to do a virtual moral choice that counts. Stricly for roleplaying purposes, of course, since you can't really do moral decisions concerning things which are not real.

Exactly. The only time I can actively remember killing kids in the original Fallout games was 1) when I was playing a rotten SOB and was tasked with blasting away a group of cultists, and some were kids. 2) When I finally had enough of The Den pickpockets and went on a rampage!

It's one of those things that I wouldn't care about if A) it wasn't part of an old game from the 90's and we're SUPPOSED to be in Next-Gen-whatever period, thus I don't like having things removed or simplified! B) It totally kills immersion to say "x is invincible... because, um, we say so".

It's also a pet peeve of mine that I HATE invincible NPCs in supposedly-open world games. I was once even playing Call of Juarez and the "don't kill friendlies" actually turned off my gun as I tried to shoot past them and hit enemies behind them... making an NPC "invincible" is IMO the laziest game mechanic ever.

Why not make actual CONSEQUENCES for your actions? From the simplest "you let x die... game over" to Childkiller perk type discouragements ("sure, you can do that... but there's a hefty price to pay"), that's what I at least want.

Oh, but no psychic npcs, though! :(

Besides, is it any LESS disturbing or immoral than a perk that encourages you to kill folks in their sleep? Or the ability to dismember and eat your enemies?

I just hate restrictions... Then why not just erase the drug concept from the game then? Cause it is a lethal addiction, we dont want an unforgiving cruel wasted world raveged with nuclear war to show a bad example to the kids... right?

I loved F1 and F2 for their open ending unbarred gameplay... Let me give you an example with a story of my friend...

In fallout 2, a friend of mine was trying to become a porn star, but his endurance was not high enough for the movie :) so he goes and gets drugs to enhance his END, but becomes an addict, so he gets in a vicious circle, acting in porn movies with buffed END and goes to buy drugs to buff his END :) this is an open ended game... I remember I got a disease from not protecting during a porn movie :) I discovered what those blue and red "Hats" are for... dont get me wrong I am not a perv I am not really interested in the porn aspect of the game but this is a great example how a game should be... you dont really follow the main quest, wander around the wasteland, do anything you want in the game... That is what I want from Fallout...
