Can't get past the Bethesda logo screen

So I hadn't played since the end of April so I decided, why not revisit the world of Skyrim again? And do a little mod shopping along the way. I downloaded a whole bunch of new mods and updated some of my old ones.

I finally got SKSE to work again and I thought I would finally be able to play but whenever I start up my game it always crashes after the Bethesda logo. I have read in another thread that this may be because I haven't updated the game. Well, I am shown as being online in Steam so I assume it has already downloaded. That, and SKSE works. (Which before I had installed it properly, I was getting messages like: "This game needs to be updated for SKSE to work.")

I installed BOSS to help me with this problem as I assumed that perhaps I needed a different load order to make it work. No dice though.

BOSS suggests that I have dirty edits though and that I should clean them but I am not tech savvy and am afraid of doing it.

1. Is there a way of finding out what Skyrim patch I am currently running on?

2. If it's not related to my Skyrim patch, what can I do to get Skyrim working again?

Im fairly certain you have the right patch but to check you need to right click your TESV.exe, select properties, and then go to details; your patch will be there.

I could be any number of things going wrong, most likely a new mod has caused it. How many mods does BOSS NOT recognize?

Hm. Says my file/product version is 1.3.22.0 and that it was last modified on 3/12/12

I guess that means that it's not the right patch after all, hm?

How could I update the patch manually because steam sure isn't doing it for me, despite me being online and launching the game several times. I've tried to see if it was available on the official website but couldn't find it there. :|

Also, my BOSS says that greybeardsrobes.esp and CampingKitNorthernRanger - Without Shop.esp aren't recognized but I used these mods without any problem back when I last played. They are old mods.

You could try shutting of sections of your load order (one at a time) and testing it to narrow down the search. For example you could turn off the bottom half (excluding and files nessary for the those among the top half) and test the game. If it works you can continue to narrow it down from there and if it does you can probubly rule those out.

That worked! Thank you so much for your help. You really got me through that. It was the first time that's ever happened so I was really sweating there.

Oddly, it turns out that it was Deus Mons causing the problems which is one of the most popular house mods here on the nexus. I wonder what mod it conflicts with. I kind of had my heart set on that one but I guess I'll just look into something else. Thank goodness I didn't have my items stored in that one though.

EDIT: And just in case anyone gets the wrong idea, it seems that upgrading Deus Mons fixed it. I had an older version that I kept mostly because I didn't like the idea of adding in NPCs.
