Why do land mines explode as soon as I enter a cell?

I see this often in my various saves and playthroughs where I enter a cell or a world space and I can hear or sometimes even see a land mine explode in the distance as if something set it off. I think it is npcs setting them off but why would mines be set off by presumably the very npcs that placed them? Perfect repeatable example of this is recon bunker theta when approaching from that intersection near the hospital and nearby greentop nursery old gullet sinkhole, follow that road up it passes near a nuclear waste dump and the galleria. Keep going to that four way intersection and then get close to that car on the road where you can just begin to see who is standing near recon bunker theta where the three land mines are deployed. One of the mines always goes off just as I reach that car on the road. There is a random spawn point there and it could be thirsty settler sitting or dead settler with a note or gunner patrol or raider patrol or whatever. That mine closest to that spawn point always goes off when I get to the car on the road.

 

There are other places like that too and it seems any kind of actor sets them off or they go off just because? Yet the mines at cambridge never go off despite those ghouls running around everywhere. I have to go disarm and pick those up them drop them down near the police station when responding to the BoS distress signal. Mines in this game seem to work in odd ways.

Explosives in general work odd in this game. This is the same game that gives us NUCLEAR HAND GRENADES. :wacko: :facepalm:

I'm actually glad that you brought that up tho. I have for a very long time, wondered what those random explosions were! Now I know :D

 

Oh, then there's the oversized slingshot that shoots mini nuclear bombs. MIRV style, even.

 

Exploding nuclear cars anybody?
