[LE] NPC prefer wearing Underwear to wearing an Armor

Can you tell me why do NPC prefer wearing underwear slot 52 to wearing an Armor slot 32?

 

You see, I edited a few meshes, say bandit armor, imperial cuirass etc by adding another NiNode namely slip underwear. This NiNode's slot is 32 like other NiNodes.

 

Then I created new ARMO - Underwear. Same mesh as the mentioned NiNode, but standalone nif with the slot 52 occupied.

 

And my final step was that I added Underwear to those Outfits alongside with Fur (Bandit) Armor, Imperial Armor, Scaled, Scaled Horned etc. So now NPC have both Cuirass and Underwear (slot 52) to choose from.

 

The problem is they choose Underwear, like I said. :confused:

 

I can force them equip main Armor via console, but they strip to undies as soon as possible, after loadscreen, recycleactor, resetinventory.

 

So, I am at a loss wheather it's a mesh or esp edits to blame for that. Where's the miscalculation? Any ideas would be appreciated.

NPCs will equip the best piece of gear for a given slot. If nothing else has better stats in slot 52, they will always wear that slot 52 item. If there are more slots assigned on the armor and armor addon records then that item will also override the appearance in those slots (by order of being worn). There is a priority number on the armor addon record (I think) which should govern the order in which a piece of gear is worn for purposes of visual slot overriding.

 

One thing to try is equipping the items on the player. It will be easier to see if one item is causing another to unequip or just be hidden. If hidden, the item will still be flagged as being equipped. If unequipped, it will not be flagged as equipped. That will give you a better idea of where to look to solve the issue. In the case of being unequipped, the conflicting items share the same node across the NIF, armor record and armor addon records. If being hidden, the two share nodes within the armor and armor addon records but not the NIF itself.

 

That said, I would check your records and makes sure that your slot 52 item has only slot 52 across all three locations. Make sure there are no secondary nodes on the NIF that may have a separate slot assignment.

Looks like both armor and underwear shares the same 32 body slot. They can't be equipped both at the same time. Once the underwear is equipped, the armor gets unequipped and vise versa.

 

The problem is I can't find the 'location' where the slot 32 is still assigned. I checked underwear nifs ten times. I checked esp records ten times. It's simply impossible to figure out!

No, of course it doesn't. I am messing up with underwear and other sorts of armor for different slots for a few years and it never came to this confusion.
