MetallicDinosaur
I know this is going to sound like a dumb question, but how do i convert a 3ds model into a nif file for New Vegas?
DeathPrincess
With this. (though it depends which version of 3ds max).
MetallicDinosaur
I have 3ds Max 2010 and figured out how to export the file to a .nif file, but now I can't get GECK or New Vegas to recognize the .nif file. With this. (though it depends which version of 3ds max).

I'd love to know how bethesda do it, I bet they aren't f***ing around with nifscope ;)
neomonkeus
@thefinn - Obviously Bethesda don't use NifSkope, pretty stupid remark. They have the documentation & source code for the middle-ware, have written the custom code for the "Game Engines", choose how to structure the format. With all this information, it is "relatively" easy to make tools. Most of the information modders know about the format is from people with hex editors poking at the files with sticks and magic and somehow being able to decipher the parts that make up the files. Tools are then built around what they discover. Without any documentation or detail description of the format, it is amazing the tools that are available. @Metallic Dinosaur - If you check the Niftools Forum in the 3ds Max Development forum there is some topics/links to some more recent builds that are more recent that currently available in the download section of sourceforge.net Edited November 29, 2012 by neomonkeus
